This set of magazine inserts shows portraits of leading VFL footballs titled Prominent Players. They are black and white photos overprinted with team colour uniforms as was the method of the time. Only one instance is known at this time and that is No. 8 Haydn Bunton.

It shows head and shoulder portraits of VFL footballers with a yellow frame showing the players name below the portrait. The set is more commonly known as the 'Nutty Bar' cards and is based on the same original pictures as the Clarke-Ellis set but the format is different

The series must have been issued in two batches since cards 1 - 40 read "40 Prominent Footballers to the Set" at the base of the back and cards 41 - 80 read "80 Prominent Footballers to the Set". Cards 41 - 80 also show the players name and team on the front of the card.

This series contains both VFL and VFA players with the front of the card differentiating between the two by showing a 'League' or 'Association' banner. An advertisement card was also issued explaining which cards could be obtained with each of the Giant Liquorice products. A club colour card was also issued for each team competing in the VFL and VFA competitions. It is not known whether the club colours were issued as part of the player series.

This is one of the most common series of football cigarette cards showing colour head and shoulder shots of leading VFL footballers. The cards with the Grey's advertisement on the back are significantly harder to find than the Godfrey & Phillips and BDV backs.

The top half of these cards show team colour stripes with the words Hoyt’s Pictures showing on the stripe. The bottom half is blank except for the team name. The back of the card describes the discounts available. It appears that both VFL and VFA teams were issued.
