Day Tour of Fraser Island departing from the Sunshine Coast
Fraser Explorer Day Tours show you the highlights of World Heritage Fraser Island's amazing
variety of landscape... long surf-pounded beaches, luxuriant
rainforest, pristine freshwater lakes, vast desert-like sand blows,
winding streams. and forest-clad dunes rising to 240 metres,
among the highest in the world.
You will learn about the fascinating Aboriginal and pioneering
history, how the island was formed and about its wildlife and
unique vegetation, from huge trees to tiny sundews and ancient
ferns, from your expert driver guide.
Your tour begins or 7am - with pick-up buses along the Sunshine
Coast from 5.30am.
Your 4WD coach will take you on the cable ferry across the Noosa
River to the famous Teewah Beach with photo stops at its best
coloured sand formations, the Bubbling Springs, the wreck of the
Cherry Venture - washed ashore in 1973, and Double Island Point.
At Rainbow Beach your driver will radio ahead to have the Rainbow
Venture ferry to Fraser Island waiting for you, and to maximise your
time on the island, you will have morning tea onboard while
crossing the Straits.
On Fraser you will drive up the magnificent surf beach and see the
beautiful freshwater creeks which pour millions of litres of pure water
into the ocean, and see the areas that were sandmined in the 1970's
leading to Australia's first great conservation battle. This brought Fraser
Island to international prominence, and as appreciation of its natural
wonders grew, so did the demand for it to be placed on the United Nations World
Heritage list.
At Eurong your tour turns inland through coastal forest to the most
scenic part of the island's rainforest. Unique vegetation and some of the
world's largest trees grow there.
At Central Station Forest Park you will stroll along the banks of
Wanggoolbo Creek. It's crystal clear waters are overhung by forest
giants, palms and ferns of all sorts including the rare prehistoric giant
King Fern.
The coach continues then to the beauty spot, Pile Valley with its
immense satinay trees, so huge many were taken in the 1920's to
re-line the banks of the Suez Canal.
Your drive continues to the most beautiful of Fraser's unique lakes,
Lake McKenzie, with its blue water lapping dazzling white sand
beaches and centuries old melaleuca trees. You will spend at least
1 hour, 15 minutes there - to swim, explore, stroll.
You return to the magnificent restaurant at Eurong Beach
Resort, right on the surf beachfront for a hot and cold buffet lunch
at leisure by the pool. There is time for souvenir and gift shopping
before heading back down the surf beach for the Sunshine Coast...
with memories to last a lifetime.
