(28/10/09) EAST COAST CHAMPION results Apology; In my rush to complete these results before I went OS I missed Karodoc Lofts entry as it was spelt Carrodock Lofts for the QLD 10000; this turned out to be a BIG mistake as they were the true winners; My sincere apology to all involved and I thank Karadoc Lofts for their understanding in this matter. See results page for full point score.
(9/9/09) Just a quick message before i go OS. There are only 75 rings left (out of 300) and about 85 spots in total left, so if you want to be in the race for 2010 you had better book and pay a deposit NOW to secure your spot; don't say "but I was in it last year and you can fit me in" those who pay their deposit are IN those who don't, well you may miss out.
(26/8/09) Day two and three birds now on results page.
Rings are going well this year with 173 sold so far (this is only one less than last year) and a lot of people I know who will want them are still to get theirs. This year I could be sold out and you may miss out. I only take 400 entries and I have 205 booked now with a lot not paid the booking fee but want a spot. If someone pays up and you don't ,they get the spot. So don't miss your chance.
(23/8/09)VIP Lofts take out the main races today and most of the pools see results page for details 196 birds home at dark, 2nd day birds posted tomorrow night after 9 pm. (5/7/09) Toss 3 today. High cloud (thin) ,nice S/SW wind 15-20 knots. Lib 12-05 am went well.
(28/6/09) The weather has been very poor for tossing, it takes 2 hours to catch ;set up and go and I don't do it in the rain.Today we had a good day and the car needed 4 wheel drive to come across from the loft. Lib at 11-50am ,no wind NO HAWKS, birds all arrived almost together, two small groups from each side then the main group over head. Down to the loft together. There were a couple of late ones but not that far behind.
Rings are going out the door and bookings are also coming in for next year which is good to see this early.
I am trying a new way to put the results on the web. I have been shown how to sort the list and you only have to find your name and you can see all of your birds together. If you don't like this way then email me and I will go back to the straight results, I though for these early tosses where they all come together it would be easier for you this new way.
(9/6/09) Sorry I have not had any up dates for a while but have been waiting for tossing to start
The weather has not been kind to us for the training of the birds but I have had them out in all the bad conditions and they have come on great. I have not been able to toss them however because of the weather. The preditors have been working overtime when ever it's fine and a few more have been taken but they now know how to deal with the problem on most occasions.
Everyone in the area is being smashed on tosses , many have lost or been missing more than half of their birds on the day and the race returns have been very poor.
We had our first toss yesterday and since they have been working so well I went straight to 30km. We did get hit by a pair of falcons just after we let go , they split into 3 groups and then reformed up high leaving those falcons below after stragglers only to be hit again by another pair who turned them back towards the original ones. I watched for a while, one group of about 100 headed east and the others headed SW towards home , I also headed home and could see them being hit again up ahead.
All the loft spares have not been 'chipped' yet and don't show on the results ( chips go on after next toss)
see results page for toss 1
The rings for next year are in and available ,bookings now open.
(23/3/09)
SPECIAL NEWS FLASH
In 2010 the 10000 side of the race will be dropped and we will go back to just the Invitation 5000.
This year so far we have only 41 paid entries with another 27 spares for the 10000 part of the race. Prizemoney to date for this side of the race is $3000 1st; $800 2nd & $300 3rd.Total paid in $4100; this will increase as people 'upgrade' their enties? (check entry conditions to see why $10000 is not able to be paid ; need 130 pigeons)
The number of enties for the Invitation 5000 is 279 ; 109 own rings and 173 ring race rings paid for(3 not arriving) and 52 free entries included.Total paid in for 225 paid entries $11350 and don't forget the prize pool is less expenses??
Ring race money to date $500 1st ; $200 2nd & $65 3rd. Total paid in $765
If spares are sold and people make late entries this amount should go up.There are about 100 spares available.
Loft audit will be posted at the beginning of April.
(12/3/09)
This the first mesage for the busy year ahead. I have been waiting for the last few birds to arrive before going on line. The last few birds have failed to arrive and it is a bit late now.
Numbers are well down as the economic situation has hurt some of my Pensioners, they say they should be back next year. This will have an impact on the prizemoney and I will post full details of the projected outcome when the full loft audit goes on in a few weeks
I am posting the entry list of birds entered for everyone to check to see if their details are correct; Check your details and email me of any concerns.
I do have a good number of loft spares available for anyone who would like an entry, get in before the full loft audit and save yourself some money.
Each year a few people don't pay their enrty fee when they send their birds as required under the race rules; I will not say who they are or send out accounts but any not paid for before the audit will become loft spares, sorry but it's not fair on those who do the correct thing.
Very sorry to Geoffrey Bell and VIP lofts as it appears I have deleated from the web site some how that VIP loft donated a pair of squeakers for a luck draw winner in this years race.
The winner was Geoffrey Bell of Queanbeyan and the two birds are in the loft now; TINV 08 9001 plum and TINV 08 9002 Grizzle, they look great, a real credit to VIP lofts Nigel Jarvis to the way the were raised and the quality of the stock behind them. We look forward to seeing how well they fly in next years race. See VIP Loft web site for details of blood lines.
(15/11/08)
All is going well at the loft at this stage with birds starting to arrive, at the moment we have just over 100 in the loft. Jim Smith from the QLD 10000 is doing his run south to Taree on the 13th of December, if you need birds picked up for either race (NSW or QLD) please contact us. For southern birds I will be in Albury for a week starting the 3rd of January
2009 and can pick up on the way both down and back. I will then take birds up north for Jim's race in the 2nd week of January.
There are more people using their own rings this year compared to other years and not the Invitation rings. I still have 127 left and the $1500 prize money can't be paid if there not all sold, as of now the "ring race" prize pool is $865.
Transport???
"Dog movers" travel all over the country and are very good at looking after your birds if you need a transport company, I also have a/cs with "Barnetts" and "Australian Air Express" if you wish to use these services.
(14/10/08)
All prize cards and money were sent out a few weeks ago along with the top 10 East Coast Champions cards, if you have not received yours in the mail please let me know.
Entries for 2009 are coming in with 150 rings sold and another 102 other birds booked. You must pay the deposit to guarantee your spot. Don't forget ALL BIRDS have a $5 chip fee even the free entry.
At this stage the dates for next years races will be sprint 1 (100km) July 26th; sprint 2 (200km) Aug 9th and the main race (450km) Aug 23rd. Birds can be sent at the end of this month.
(9/9/08)
Ken Tucker of Rockhampton is the East Coast Champion for 2008.
The results of those who took part in the NSW 10000 and QLD 10000 have been collated and Ken Tucker shows out as the person with the most consistent pigeons. Every pigeon was given points according to the position it finished in the 3 events held at both lofts, the bird with the lowest amount of points for each fancier at both Taree and Gympie were then added to give a total score. The lowest score wins. 13 fanciers were in the final results as listed below;
well done to all and we look forward to seeing who will be next years "East Coast Champion"

(8/8/08) Sorry I haven't had an update for a few days.
I went to the Tamworth single loft race last weekend. A good day but unfortunately no birds home.
No toss on the weekend as a result and as I don't usually get home early enough from work to basket before dark I haven't managed mid week tosses either except for todays. Toss 11 now on results.
The days are getting longer and I hope to manage a couple more short tosses before the main race.
Sprint 2 on Sunday

, $20 , $10 , $5 , and $2 pools are on for those interesred as well as a calcuter on the day. Bids for your birds can be emailed to me if you are unable to attend on the day. They are sold in owner lots unless an individual bid is placed on a bird.
(27/7/08)NEWS FLASH!!!!!! Need to put the 2nd sprint and Main race back a week: SPRINT 2 10th August and MAIN RACE 24th August; THE INTERESTS of the BIRDS COMES FIRST
Last weekend the Newcastle 10000 could have been adversely affected by the Far North Coast Fed Lib on Sunday by all reports. One of the reasons I had changed dates before was to miss the FNC fed but unfortunately I found out today they have put their race season back a week because of bad weather which means we would still clash. To give every entry it's best chance I feel we should change to the new dates. The other alternative is a Monday lib 18th August but this has a lot of problems also .If you are affected could you please email your thoughts ASAP it would be appreciated.
Updated money 20/7/08 10-30 am .Overcast but goodconditions, light tail wind
(19/7/08)
Liberation is at 12 noon, Results posted ASAP; Good luck:
Prize money Approx 1st $850, 2nd $450, 3rd $250, 4th $100, 5th $50..

(9/7/08)
( If you miss a result email me and I will send it to you )
Many people have not as yet upgraded their birds for the 10000, you need to pay for the second half of your team or part of. Also sprint money is slow
Watch the results. Spares draw will be made this weekend and full list (bird / lucky person) posted on this page.
(30/6/08)
DON'T FORGET TO UPGRADE YOUR BIRDS FOR THE $10000 race soon, including your spares , closing date is JULY 12 . If your $100 is not in on time you are not entered, no exceptions. Don't blame anyone except your self if you miss out.
Your $10 a bird per sprint money is also due before the first sprint and it must be received by that date to be in the sprints. NO MONEY IN BEFORE THE DAY YOUR NOT IN IT. Please note that credits or refunds of your $10 will be given for birds lost between sprints.
The interest todate re: possible extra race is all positive; that's good, make your comment known.
I hope returns continue to be as good as the last couple of tosses, I was told that some local flyers had a race where the sprint is held from and only got 25% returns, falcons smashed them.
WE don't want that to happen in a few weeks time.
Toss 3 Basketed last night for early toss today 30km clear as! cool 4 degrees at 6-45 am with fog on ground
when birds released, went well. Results on page now. Will only leave the LAST 2 TOSSES on web site at a time. If you need to compare you will have to save a copy. Not enough room on my site.
(22/6/08)
SPECIAL NOTE. TEST YOUR BIRDS; Possible extra race from the opposite direction SOUTH 3- 4 weeks after main event if enough interest Up mass with Far North Coast fed .Approx $20 a bird ;places / money split 1 in 25. Email your thoughts to me please.
We have finally had 2 nice days of sun shine. Showers back tonight. Preditors worked the birds well the last couple of days.
Toss today ;30km ;perfect conditions, sunny
with 10-20knot southly with stronger gusts at times in their face. See results page.
(17/6/08)
Sorry that I have not had any updates for a few weeks but my father became ill and passed away on 6/6/08 It's been tough for all the family.
The news has not been all that good in other areas either. The weather has been poor with misty rain low cloud or heavy rain and strong winds, the preditors have been working overtime and refuse to be relocated. The number of injured birds grows continually with 3 falcons , goss hawks and a first for me to see small eagles , wedge tail eagles and even an ospray attacking the birds not once but several times over the last few weeks. There has only been 7 times since the last toss that something hasn't attacked. They must be hungry
I hope to return to tossing this weekend if it fines up.
The word from JIM QLD 10000 is all good. He has had a couple of tosses and is sending by post a news letter in the next few days. A copy will be post on this site when it arrives.
The rings for 2009's race have arrived and are available now.
(21/5/08)
The birds have had their first true test. A training run on Sunday from 15 km in gusty 20 - 30knt winds. They went perfectly , up high and heading for home in a few minutes of release. I packed up and started the chase only to find that after driving about 5 km I saw the birds getting belted by the falcons; It's not what you want on the first run, birds being pushed down into the bush. Nothing I could do but go home and wait. I've been tossing this point for years for my first few runs and never lost a bird . That was about to change, I had that feeling and after waiting 2 hours I finally had a bird that didn't feel like coming in and then a second bird joined it, down they came and then the rest is history as they say. The results are on the RESULTS page. Unfortunately my worst fears were realised and to say I am very disappointed is an understatment. Birds continue to return scattered over 3 days and still counting.
Loft spares will now be chipped and posted in future tosses. Anyone who wishes to purchase a spare should do so NOW as they may not be available later as they are used to replace entries.
Race day has been put back by three weeks. New dates are as follows
Sprint 1 = July 20th
Sprint 2 = August 3rd
Race day = August 17th
Sorry if this cause any inconvenience to any one but I do have a few good reasons for the change of date.
(5/5/08)
Birds are working well and starting to range, unfortunately the preditors working overtime at the moment and have caused a few more birds to go missing. After one attack I had a bird reported 30km away ,dead, crashed into a window.
Tossing should begin very soon, possibly this weekend. Results will be posted at every run.
The latest loft audit is on results page.
QLD 10000 News
Some bad news from Jim. He and his partner Deb have split and as a result his web/email are all down. Jim has limited knowledge of this side of the operation as Deb did all that side of things. He is getting help from my web man and hopes to have his site / email up and running again very soon. Also his good friend Graham has cancer and not long to live. You can contact Jim for information by phone, leave a message if he's at work and he'll get back to you ASAP. I will post some news here as it comes to hand untill Jim's site is going. THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE RACE
News from QLD 10000 loft is that the birds are going very well indeed and he will toss very soon. All birds have been chipped and his loft system is up and running .
Race dates;
Race 1 = 150mls July 20th
Race 2 = 250mls August 10th
Main Race = 350mls August 31st
(
22/4/08)
The birds are beginning to work now as they get some feathers, with hard training beginning now.
It is difficult with the constant rain of the last few weeks and the relentless preditors to get them really going at the moment and I hope to start tossing mid May. Losses have not been as bad as some compared to reports . Some I know have lost from 20 to 30 each with one up around 60 and they have not started tossing yet.
( first audit list on results page)
Next season I will not hold spaces for ANYONE unless a $30 per bird deposit is paid. It is unfortunate I have to do this but I was told birds were definitely coming only to have them not arrive and I turned people away for lack of space. A couple of people let me know so I was able to let a couple in late but to have 30 birds not show means others miss out who shouldn't and the prize pool is less.
Birds in on 1st in best dressed otherwise. As soon as full will post on this site.
(23/2/08)
I have made changes as directed to list. Some entry money and lists still have not arrived please send them in .These SHOULD come with the birds.
(18/2/08)
Yes I have been a little slow to update the site with news but there has not been a lot to say.Our friendly preditors are very busy and are taking some time to be relocated, birds are all doing well at this stage with not a lot of feathers on some as is the same in all lofts now. Still waiting for a few birds to turn up( time is running out for them )
There has been some confusion with entry by some people as to what race they are entered in. I have posted on the results page a list, as received by me,as to what birds and what race(s) they are in. Please check your entry is correct, notify me of any mistakes.
An ordit list will be posted as soon as the list has been corrected
We are pleased to say that the prize for "The EAST COAST CHAMPION" is an NAVMAN S30 navigator which has all the latest gear with it. Good luck to those who have entered both NSW & QLD 10000 races

SPECIAL NEWS FLASH
(only 22 spots left; contact VIP Lofts for rings)
Due to circumstances beyond our control with MALLEE VIC pulling out of the combined one loft race concept to find an Australian Champion, Jim Smith of QLD and myself for NSW have been placed in an uncomfortable position with our races not being able to be held under the conditions
we have advertised.
As a result of this unexpected situation we will NO LONGER be running events under the name of MALLEE NSW or MALLEE QLD.
Both Jim and myself are committed to the "CHAMPION" concept and although we are fully independent events we as before will continue to work together to find "now" an EAST COAST CHAMPION with our events now being held under the new names of the QLD 10000 for Jim and the NSW 10000 , in conjunction with my Taree Invitation 5000 for me.
JIM and MYSELF apologise to ALL for
any inconvenience or confusion that this may cause but we feel it is in the best interest of OUR competitors and prospective competitors.
Our East Coast Champion will be the person with the LEAST amount of points gained by your best individual bird over the 3 races held at each loft . The points are awarded according to the position (place) the bird finishes in each race. eg; You have a bird in NSW 10000 that finishes 245th sprint one, 112th sprint two and 23rd the Main event, so it gains a total of 380 points while you have a bird in the QLD 10000 that finishes 3rd race one, 25th race two and 321st the Main event giving a total of 349 points; this means you have a total of 729 points and if that was the lowest total YOU WIN.
Prizes for the "Champion" will be announced soon.

THE RACE IS ON. LIB 7AM Overcast and light showers at point clear rest of the way ,SW/SE winds 5/10 knot. GOOD LUCK they will do it tough.
The report for the later part of the day turned out not to be good , firm SW/SE winds 15 / 20 knots and rain moved in along the coast. Predators must have hit the birds , as they arrived home they were very jumpy and a lot are still looking for home. At this stage unless the returns improve race 3 will not take place.

(8 / 3 / 2007 )
There has been a lot happening lately, both good and bad . The bad news first. Friday 2/3/2007 something upset the birds and I was in a state of panic that night as over 400 birds were still out after dark with over 150 flying out of site at 9-30pm heading west. The next morning a good number had returned and that night we were still out about 70 birds. A reasonable number have made it back to date with about 30 still unaccounted for today Monday, it could have been a lot worse. I was going to do a "stock take" at the weekend but because of the trouble I will wait untill this coming weekend See results page next week for list of birds still here.
The good news, every thing else is going very well with the exception that a few birds that were booked never showed and at this stage I think it is getting late as the cut off date was 1 / 3 / 2007 Sorry.
****Changed Information
The new Taree Invitation 5000 rings for 2008's race are here and you may make bookings for the 2008 VERY SOON;

BOOKINGS can be made by sending your $5 per bird (rings not issued till June) Due to the changes that may take place this race may be limited to 200 birds and if so they will need to have the Invitation rings .( the other 200 spaces being saved for the new race)

We have 393 entered birds in the loft (of which 76 are FREE entry) with 91 spares and 29 old birds. I would like to sell the entry of 30 spares in the race both with or without the special rings . If you want an entry as you missed out before get one of these birds before the end of the month at the basic cost ( same as per all entries) If you buy later the cost is higher (see conditions of race)
We will be holding a second race from Gympie 640km on the 11 / 8 / 2007 if returns are good and enough people wish to take part. Expected entry fee $20 per bird.
