RESUME/CV
I was born in Brisbane 1955, my father and Grandmother Aboriginal,
I grew up with my younger brother and three sisters travelling and working
beside our parents in the 60's as field workers in rural and Nth.Queensland.
Many people hunted as a necessity in those days, and bushcraft was always
a fair percentage of the conversation, we made and used bush tools all the
time in the backblocks and camps when I was growing up, spears were still
used frequently by kids and adults as they still are in some lucky places
today. And I was one of those kids always willing to learn and interested
to continue these traditions. We more or less grew up on the Bruce Highway
and lived in fringe camps and settlements all over the place. Later, after
a disastrous fire we moved to back to S.E. Qld. In the city, and with such
wild 5 kids as us, my parents did it tough and gradually they began to drift
apart, my father became more involved and active in Aboriginal issues and
my mother in white Feminist activism.
At an early age I witnessed first hand the plight of murri people and resolved
to share the struggle for cultural and physical survival. My fascination with
indigenous culture continued into adulthood, usually working independently,
which you could do in the those decades as a professional nomad. I turned
21 hand mining for sapphires in central Qld 1976 and lived with my wife and
son in a tin shack (that she built). My one true regret is that my parents
separated as did my grandparents' and those before them and my own family
evaporated. And my one true hope is for the future.
As a professional artist my works have been acquired by major collections such as the National Gallery of Australia, the Queensland Art Gallery & Public Art works.
I have presented Indigenous art and culture internationally at events and
festivals, mainly Firemaking, Ochre, Boomerangs & Artefact w/shops ....from
Hadrians Wall in the West to The Great Wall of China in the East...
and Visited every gallery and Arts place I could in between!!...
