Bicentenary
of the
Norfolk Islanders to Van Diemen’s Land
1807-1813
From November 2007 Hobart will be celebrating the arrival of the over
500 people who arrives from Norfolk Island on five ships between November 1807
and October 1808. Later in 1813 another
two ships brought the remaining people to the Tamar River in Northern VDL.
We are very luck to have the Lady Nelson here in Hobart to help us
celebrate this great occasion and two-hour sails will be conducted on her
between November 2007 and October 2008 to correspond with the dates of the
ships arrivals.
Descendants of those who arrived on the original Lady Nelson, Porpoise,
Estramina, City of Edinburgh (as well as the Lady Nelson and the Minstrel, who
arrived later in 1813) are invited to visit and take part in this wonderful
time.
The two-hour sailings on the River Derwent will be accompanied by
historians who will conduct short talks on board the Lady Nelson.
The City Hall will be host for all those interested in the Norfolk Island
story and are invited to attend a get-together there on the 29 March 2008.
Space for tables will be available.
(Those interested please contact Irene)
A special invitation is extended to the VDL & NI Group who have
taken part in many outings over the years and who played a big part in the
continuing interest of the Norfolk Islanders over the past 20 years.
