The site also complements the books Online Newsgathering: Research and Reporting for Journalism, published by Focal Press, and The Daily Miracle: An Introduction to Journalism, published by Oxford University Press. It was built as a service to journalists, journalism educators, journalism students, and other online researchers.

There are examples of how computer-assisted research and reporting can help produce results for journalists.
