Text Box: Vic Wills Competition

History:

The Vic Wills Competition was first run in August 1981 as a challenge between the two clubs of IPMS Australia and the AMCC. It was an exercise in good will and friendship—the subject models had to be cars because the AMCC did not build any other models. To add a degree of class to the competition, the model cars had to be built to “Concours d’Elegance” standards.

IPMS Australia won the first three annual encounters, so to liven up the challenge the competition was opened up to allow other clubs to compete. The competition is now twenty-six years old and still going strong. It is run to strict rules and conditions, not the least being that only club teams are eligible to enter. Club teams consist of a minimum  of 2 model cars entered by members of any one club. Each member may enter an unrestricted number of models.

Judging is carried out using a unique system whereby each judge assesses one area only of each model (e.g. finish, construction, etc). An independent scrutiniser tallies up the individual judge’s scores and an aggregate score is built up for each team. The team with the highest aggregate score is the winner.

The 2008 Vic Wills competition will be held in association with the Australian Model Expo on the  weekend of June 28 and 29. Venue is Sandown Racecourse Entertainment Centre, Princes Highway, Springvale, Victoria (Melway map 80 C9).

The competition will run from the AMCC display area.
