1. The competition will be staged annually as near as practicable to the inaugural anniversary date (i.e. June or July), and invitation to enter is extended to all bona-fide static scale model clubs, whether national or international. 2. The competition will be conducted as a ”Concours D’ Elegance” for scale model automobiles finished in an unblemished condition on all outer surfaces, interiors, wheels etc. Representation of “fair wear” is acceptable. 3. Only completed automobile models will be eligible for entry, and will be restricted to those civilian types of any body style and era including sports/racing and grand prix. Heavy duty, off-road 4WD or commercial vehicles are not eligible. Models may be built to suit either of three classes: a. Out Of Box, b. Out Of Box - Enhanced, c. Modified (includes scratchbuilt models). Refer to class definitions for more information. 4. The models may be constructed of plastic, wood, metal, card etc, either wholly or in combination of materials. The model must be made up from a kit or kits or scratch built and assembled and finished by the individual team member. Commercially pre-assembled and/or pre-painted models are not eligible for entry. ENTRY LIMITATIONS: (a) Up to three of the team’s models may be 1/16 scale and larger, & the remaining models must be smaller than 1/16 scale. Note you do not have to enter large scale models. You may prefer to field a team of models 1/24 scale or smaller ( as an example). (b) Up to three of the team’s models may be modified. The remaining models must be built as ”Out of Box” or OOB Enhanced. (’Kerbside’ models are limited to one model per team). (c) A modeller/club member may enter for one club team only in any one year. (d) A participating club may enter one team only in any one year. (e) An unlimited number of models may be entered by any one club member. 5. Two models entered by a participating club will constitute a team ”challenge”. This is the lowest (minimum) number of models that can be entered, however a club may enter as many models as it chooses over and above the minimum number. 6. If a club team enters more than the minimum number of models it shall receive bonus points for each model over and above the minimum number, up to a maximum of four models. The club that enters the lowest number of models on the day sets the minimum number of models benchmark for judging. 7. The winning team will be decided by the aggregate points tally of the minimum number of highest scoring models entered by each club team on the day. The lowest scoring model will be used to break a tie if necessary. 8. The judging emphasis will be on Construction, Finish, Detail and Realism. All models entered should be accompanied by the kit instructions and/or notes detailing any modifications or scratch building the modeller may have done. Wherever possible judges will be included from the competing clubs. Competent and experienced non-competing members will be used. 9. The Perpetual Trophies remain the property of the founding clubs (AMCC and IPMS) at all times. 10. The winning club team will receive awards recording their part in that year’s competition. The winning club will also have the team members names and year recorded on the Vic Wills Perpetual Trophy. Second and third placed teams also receive awards, respectively recording their part in that year’s competition. |
11. All qualifying models from the winning and runner-up teams will automatically be ineligible to enter any subsequent ”Vic Wills Competition”. Models used as a tie-breaker will also be ineligible for subsequent entry. 12. Should any participating clubs fail to field the minimum requirement of 2 models (refer clause 5) on the date of the competition, the defaulting club/s shall forfeit their challenge, or in the case of the defending club surrender the trophy to the club complying with clauses 5 and 7. 13. Single models may be displayed on a simple base depicting typical ground cover normally applicable to civilian automobiles e.g. bitumen, concrete, cobblestones etc. For judging purposes the base will not be regarded as part of the model. 14. Models may be partially dismantled to show detail, but any parts removed must be displayed with the model. Incomplete models (e.g. rolling chassis only) are not eligible. 15. In the event of a dispute regarding the interpretation of these rules and conditions, the decision of a competition sub-committee assembled by the founding clubs shall be final and binding. 16. To encourage team entries of Alfa Romeo and Porsche models, three bonus points will be awarded to a team containing any number of Alfa Romeo and/or Porsche models. The bonus points to be added on to the team score after deduction of the lowest scoring model. The total bonus points awarded to any one team shall not exceed three points. 17. It is a condition of entry that any model entered in the Vic Wills competition may be photographed, and the photograph used for publicity purposes by the AMCC and/or IPMS Australia.
DEFINITIONS:
Modified: A kit will be considered modified if any major parts (chassis, body sections, interior or engine) are replaced, heavily modified or re-engineered. Any scratch building will automatically place a model in the modified section. Any other parts and alterations are free for modified models. Fully scratchbuilt models are also included in this section. (Includes Kerbside models with custom added engines).
Out of Box (OOB): Any model built solely of the components from the one kit. Sprue or stretched sprue will not be accepted as being kit parts (unless indicated in the instructions). Bare metal foil and or any other material of a ”purely decorative nature” can be used. Decals are free choice. Drilling sanding and/or using body filler to fill “dimples” on parts are all acceptable under O.O.B. Rules. Curbside models (those models without engine detail included in the kit) are classed as O.O.B.
Enhanced: As per Out of Box and with the following additions. Use of any aftermarket parts or parts from other kits, ignition leads, plumbing, tyres or photo-etched parts is acceptable, as long as the original kit configuration remains unchanged. (Major mechanical components and their layout should not deviate from the kit on which the model is based). The emphasis here is on enhancing the model rather than significantly modifying it. For the purposes of the Vic Wills Competition any models built as Enhanced, should be entered as OOB Enhanced models. For further clarification see the competition head judge. |

Important notes: The Vic Wills contest is for modelling clubs teams only. Club members are not eligible to enter as individuals. Please refer to rules and conditions of entry, paragraphs 4, 5, and 6 for more details.
Entry into both the Vic Wills competition and Model Expo car categories:
Model cars entered into the Model Expo may also be entered into the Vic Wills contest (double entry) provided they meet the set rules and conditions.
First enter your model/ into the Model Expo categories of your choice. When you have completed all of the Model Expo requirements, take your models to the AMCC display stand and enter the models into the Vic Wills contest.
When you have completed the requirements of the Vic Wills contest you must leave your club team Vic Wills models with the Vic Wills organisers. A club team may set up their own club display as they wish within the space provided for them.
Your Vic Wills entries will be judged separately from the Model Expo entries, even though they are the same models. The winning and placing teams will be announced prior to the Model Expo winners’ announcements on the last day of the Model Expo (Monday).
Models entered in the Vic Wills that also win a place in a Model Expo category will be moved to that category for final display. For final display purposes, Model Expo winners and placing models have priority over the Vic Wills displays.
It is recommended that a club team intending to enter the Vic Wills contest should elect a “Team Captain” to oversee the team entries and to liaise with the Vic Wills organisers.
Please read the rules and conditions carefully as no correspondence can be entered into after judging is completed. Please refer to a member of the organising committee for clarification of these rules and conditions. |
