Jason's Other Groovy TV Show - Department S

The Shift That Never Was

Director: John Gilling

Original broadcast date: 29-Oct-1969
Screenplay: Donald James

Stepney, London, England - October 10
When Frank Bellman takes a day off work because of a stomach upset, it doesn't occur to him that he is the only one to have done so. With just one exception, every member of staff at a chemical factory he and George Parsons own has also been absent. The one exception is a new receptionist, Miss Royce, who was at the factory to receive telephoned apologies for absence. Yet, nothing is missing, nor has anything been tampered with, and local observers vow that nothing seemed unusual at the plant; they saw the daily shift arrive and normal tanker deliveries being accepted and unloaded. Can Department S unravel the mystery?
