I am a fan of Alby's and wanted you guys to know. Everyday at
pm we watch Alby and his "babes" sail the South Pacific, or wherever.
Thank God for the Travel Channel for bringing us such a refreshing
show of the adventures of Alby and his animals. We watch with
fasination as he does what he does best. What a Ham-bone Alby is.
His love of critters and the sea and just plain aeventure is
wonderful. My husband and I do what Alby does only a month or two
out of the year. What a show and what a guy!!
Travel on... Deb Dexter, Northern California
I have learned so much from your shows. There are so many lessons to
learn from you.I've seen every
show that the travel channel allows us to see in America. Every thing I do I'm always wondering what
would Alby do. People think I'm a bit on the crazy side when I speak of you. I just want them to think of
you as I do.One of the greatest explorer of our time. I hope I live long enough to be half the man you are
Alby. You are in my thoughts always and I dream of a day I can speak with you in person. If you have a
picture possibly a signed picture to put on my wall would be great. thanx for doing what you do. Your 1 fan
Darin Hilbern 2938 sw 19th Okc ok 73108. Thanx again Alby your the greatest!!!
As much as I enjoy watching adventure bound
and the adventures of Alby and his companions
I am wondering what and where is Judy Green?
Where can pictures and write ups be found on
any info would be great Thanks
[Answer: look up the Judy Green picture on this web-site, I've added some information there]
Love the site and now I am quite relieved that I am not the only
planet with a Alby worship syndrome. I have it on good advice that he now
resides at West Beach a beach side suburb in South Australia. But you
probably already know this? I am dearly hoping to bump into the great man
down the local supermarket but at this point in time I have not been so
I am a local of metropolitan Adelaide. :-) Supposedly he has
deceased estate and is residing in West Beach which is a seaside suburb of
Adelaide which is about a 10min drive to the CDB of Adelaide. Therefore
Alby is a City Slicker these days…
I am sending best wishes from the Czech Republic. I am sorry, that I
"new year´s e-mail" with my URL. I found your very interesting www pages and
I think that I saw some films about your trips a few years before. I haven´t
more interesting pages than you, but I wanted to make some pages about
Have a nice day.
I know Alby through Tv.His adventure serial was great .
Thats a way , how I become Alby fan.
I will once see this great men.

Hello there. My son and i just love watching adventure
My son loves sam. Every show
with sam on it he has to watch. Also my son is a animal lover just like i am. That's why we love
watching your shows. I am a single mom, so therefore we don't have much money to buy your
movies and shirts. Or we would. But my son just wanted me to write you a little something. Well
keep up your travels and be safe. thank you!

one 'in search of Alby'.
Some friends and I were discussing him the other night and we want
to know what happenend to him after the World Safaris.
I've just come across your web site - love it!
I'd be interested in interviewing you about it...and what makes Alby
such a legend.
Love to catch up with you!
[And I did, on about 14th March 2002]
I've seen a lot of episodes of Adventuer Bound. I must admit
gaze at the T.V. with wonderment and jealousy. i wish my life in some way
was like Albys. I'm tired of wishing and I want to start doing. i yearn to
travel and I was wondering if there were and groups or organizations i could
join ro maybe even be part of a crew or something. in America or even
Austrailia or anywhere in the world for that matter. If you know of anything
please help. 710 S Cedar St. Lititz Pa. 17543
Years ago I saw Alby´s documentaries on TV in Holland and I
enjoying them very much. I even went to Australia for a year (back in 1994-1995) and did
some traveling too, however less "adventurous" and with more means, but
I did work on a few farms in the outback and a great experience it was.
Great to see that lot´s of people love it too,
Jos - also a dutchman :)
I'm a writer in Charlotte, NC. Love your site!I'm a huge Alby Mangels fan as
well, and I was hoping to write a profile on him. Any advice on the best way
to get an interview. I'm sure he's flooded with requests, just thought I'd
give it a try.
[C'mon Alby, if you're reading this - give the guy a break! ;-) ]
I enjoyed reading the stories on your web site. I've been
Alby on the Travel Channel for some time, but am left with two
one of which I think you answered on the web site: where did Judy
Green come from? How did this very attractive woman just show up
to meet Alby without knowing much about him or what she would be doing?
he was well known in Australia. The second question is regarding his catamaran that he had built. I saw an epsiode where they showed the final rigging and its launch, but I've never seen it since. What happened to the catamaran?
Once thing you missed on Albys scrapes with danger, is the time he
the train in Peru, when it was attacked by terrorists. That was kind of scary.
On another note, great site, lots of info, well done.
Alby is [way cool] over here in the US as well.
I taped all the episodes from the travel channel, old and new. Over
episodes all together. I was riveted by them. I have seen them over and
over until the tapes wore out, well almost. I am still watching them two
years later. Alby is mythical folk hero. He is real life, the [real deal]
He is bigger then life, a real life legend, in fact so big that he is too
much to deal with in real life so being a mythical folk hero is easier way
to think of him, because this guy blows away anyone I have even seen on TV.
I have seen A lot over the years from Mutual of Omaha wild kingdom and
Marty's Wild America, and dozens of others who do small episodes of various
nature films and adventures. I love Ray Mears of the Ultimate Survival
Guide, but I have to tell you that Alby has my heart. Alby 20+ years of
films, Alby has really inspired me and I think he is arguably greatest
adventurer of all time. I love the old episodes, the background soundtracks
are so cool. Those old episodes are classic. They remind me of the old Star
Trek series. The new Alby series was cool too but not as good as the old
stuff, but that's the way it is. I think too much K-be at the end of the
old episodes might have hurt his viewer ship some. I did not like the
soundtrack on the new stuff as much as on the old stuff, but they were
still fun to watch. I think the new ones were a good try but they don't
have the fire like the old ones. I am curious what happened to Michelle and
Judy, Rick and others stars of the films. These episodes were so good that
even the minor stars left you wandering about their lives. But all in all,
Alby Mangels has really made a great contribution to the hopes and dreams
of millions around the world who dare to dream. You might not have nine
lives like Alby, but like Jimi Hendrix used to say, [still raining-still
Hats off to Alby Mangels and may the rest of his days on the Earth
My husband and I enjoy his adventures so much. It does not
if it is
a repeat......you always notice something you did not see the 1st time. We
heard his Rick (nephew) is going to have his own shown but do not know
the name of it nor when it will start showing.
BACK TO ALBY:
Mr. Mangels has allowed people like us to go places and meet people we
would never be able to do. He loves his dogs....and a person who loves
animals, the land and envoirment has to be a wonderful person.
Queen Creek, AZ USA

tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today !
Just wanted to say I have watched alby for years, even the reruns
times over. Adventure Bound and alby has a permanent place in my mind.
Alby GOOD ON YA !!!! Paul, S.F. Ca.
Hi There; Let me introduce myself. I'am John Schell from Fortwayne,
I got laid off from my job in Feb. of this year, and I just happen to turn the
Travel channel on one day to see Adventure Bound, well to say the least I was
hooked. After a few program's I decided to see if there was anything on the
web, about the history of this man. You have done a great job on the web
site. I have not went all the way threw it but give me some time. I'am also a
born again christian now of 26 year's, thank God for his grace on our lives.
As I watched the program today Rick's face looked like someone I had meet
before. My wife and I went to Israel in 1998 and we went on a cruise down in
the southern part of Israel. On the cruise boat there was a young man that
looked just like Rick and yes he was from Austrailia. Had Rick ever went to
Israel? I would like to get a copy of Adventure Bound. Do know at this time
about any reprint's? God Bless John
[Well Rick, was it you?]
I think I must be one of the only Belgians that have ever heard of
Mangel. He was my hero when I was
still a kid and I didn’t miss any of his broadcastings (on a Dutch channel). Every time I watched him, I
felt admiration and had this strange feeling that I too was meant to do something like that. And now,
more than ten years later I am doing it. I travel a lot and I’m close to graduating and it’s still my
intention to make wildlife- and adventure documentaries. It will be hard, but it’s my dream and
I hope to realize it. I just wanted to say to Alby, THANK YOU SO MUCH, you are my big example and still my
childhood hero!!!! You are a true inspiration and the perfect example of how people should be: open minded.
Maybe we’ll meet on one of our adventures!!
I don't know if this email is going to Alby himself but I would like
write and say hello. I am a film maker and martial artist in Los Angeles
California. I've been a fan for many years now, in fact Alby is on right
now as I write. Just want to say thanks for caring about our planet and
sharing your adventures with the world. If I ever get down to Australia I
would love to meet Alby. If you have any tips on movie production I would
love to hear from you. Please visit my website at
http://www.screaminggargoyle.com or my martial arts site at
http://www.aslaksen.org Thanks again. - Phil Aslaksen
I have an Alby sighting nearly every day, he eats at my
take way shop. He likes chips and gravy, and drinks
at the Coolbellup Tavern nearby. He always stops for
a bit of a chat, I wouldnt have recognised him unless
he introduced himself, he lives in Jandakot, Perth WA.
[Watch out for the impersonators, they are everywhere. And
To Alby or who it may concern,
A few weeks ago I started to watch Adventure Bound. It comes
about two times a week on the Travel Channel. It is a very educational
and exciting show. I applaud Alby for setting out and fulfilling his
dream. I enjoy the show alot. I live in northern New York State and
would love to see these places some day. Keep up the great work!
Until recently, Alby Mangels was unknown to Americans and to the
part still is, but
within the last six months the Travel Channel has started to show Adventure Bound
sporadically. He has become my favourite character and has inspired me to see the rest of
the world and especially the more off the track places in any way I can. I wish more
Americans would have the chance to see his work instead of the worthless programming
they usually show, he should be primetime. I have rearranged my entire schedule on the
chance that he may be on and I have most of them taped. As soon as I graduate, I'm off
to some far away place, I'll decide when I get there. Great website.

I have watched many of the shows on The Travel Channel and of all
ladies Alby has traveled with I think Joey was the most "lady like"and
had the most class. Could you please tell me something about her ? Are
they together ? Thank you for your time.
About two weeks ago on a flight from Connecticut to Chicago, I sat
an engineer from Sydney on a business trip to the States. He told me that
he thinks something truly bad has happened to Alby--either he was in jail or
dead. I've searched in vain to find out if this is true.
Please update your website. Please validate his existence.
a major fan
[This amuses me every time I read it!]
I don't want to take up much of your time, sadly I live in
the united states and all I want to do is get a letter or Alby or
an email. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
[Hey - don't we all!]
Alby Mangles and elves,
I have e-mailed you previous with comments about the Alby girls with
Thats kool, after a person as important as Alby can't answer all mail. I'm in the
states and wacth Alby and his reruns faith fully, also have turned on many
freinds to Alby and his girls. The one thing I tell them is, this is not like
any boring travel log you've ever seen. If Alby does something stupid he
films it, if he scews up he films it, along with the beauty and uglyness of
the world. The wild life and structure. He seems frank and honest in all
things and is not on a selling spree.
I thank my GOD for Alby and the entertainment he has brought to the
For telling like it is with no editting the frames that make him look bad.
And many of the people I know have become Alby beleivers because of me and
watching his shows. The inspraition that has taken him to give to others that
which he has lived, along with GOD's gifts given to him has set him in to a
lonely class of the Best travel video in the world with no compition. NO ONE
CAN DO IT LIKE ALBY!!!!
The Documentry about his life was great and I been there with him in
weck, Sam's death, loss of freinds, the loss of the 2 boats, the heilo
crashesand all the rest. I been there with Joey, Michele, Judy and the
others. And to this day get upset if the TV schedule takes his show off for a
day because of a special.
If anyone is critical of what Alby, his staff, His family, his
those he's met the have never tried to do any thing them sevles and knew how
hard it is,they simply wish to bitch. What I have to say is thank you Alby
Mangles for all you have done!
Attemping to contact Alby in the hope to meet Alby, offer help on
and would like to
make contrabution to Alby's journey. If I can't reach Alby here, could you please inform me of
a current address where I could reach him? It will be greatly appreciated. Your friend. Eric
G'day Shortbread; Thanks for getting back with me. Watched Adventure
today. He was in Port Vila. I like the man's courage. Had a gal named Joey
with him, she had a cross on a chain around her neck, hope she is proclaiming
the GOOD NEWS of Jesus with her. I know he has had alot of tibulation in his
journey's, but what a wonderful experience he has had. My wife and I are
planning on going to Costia Rica next year, you know JUST PACK UP AND GO. God
I get curious about some of this equipment somethimes. Like what
and model he
found to work the best and most trusted to work when you need it. But lately
one thing has really bothered me.
With all the sailling he has done, why did he chose a catamaran over
hull types. I mean he uses a boat unlike those who buy them to be seen on
Hi guys, Being a devoted Alby fan for several years, I
know why I never thought to
search the net for info about him. While checking weather reports in Australia, it occured to
me to do so. I'm so glad I did. I've enjoyed your page more than any other I've been to. I love
how Alby re-
pairs things, doesn't seem to mind getting dirty or scraped and banged up. His warmth,
compassion and concern for the ecosystem are very touching. All round, he appears to be
a great fellow, although some women might not agree. Even though I don't know him
personally, he seems like a friend. Thanks for the site. You've done a great job!
We are wondering,"Where's the Flying Dutchman?" Does he ever respond
to any of his
mail? It would be nice to hear from him and get updated on his whereabouts and what he
is doing. And how much longer do we have to wait before another episode? We would really
like to hear from him if he can spare the time.Staying in touch, between sailors,is very
important.Let's not forget all the fans, too. Always,Rolf Svensson

I visited the temple of Alby Mangels you have on the web. I visit often
if you must know. I recently read that there is an address to reach him
in Alexandria, Va. here in the USA. Can you tell me more about this
address? How did you obtain it and has it been tried yet? Is it simply
fan mail? I appreciate all your time and effort. Look forward to
hearing from you soon.
Loved your site...but can you answer a question for me please. There is on-goinng debate between
some friends and I concerning Alby's present hiatus from the media....someone has mentioned that Alby
Mangels is HIV positive and/or AIDS? I've not heard anything like this and dispute vehemently....so
could you please let me know a.s.a.p. so that I can quash this rumour once and for all.
[Blimey - where does this stuff come from?? NO! His
is wholly due to incredible shyness, as is obvious ;-)]
your site is great. i remember seeing one of alby's films in
Malvern Town Hall and in my vague memory i remeber that it was avout him
and some mate, and a dog, who ended up on lizard island in far north
queensland. it is particularly interesting now because the place has been discovered
and been turned into a resort, but then it was just a deserted island.
do you know if this is available on video? i've looked at the
the ones on his site but it is not clear to me. i'd really appreciate it
if you could point me in the right direction to track it down.
Unfortunately, the Travel Channel has taken Adventure Bound off of
schedule in October. Usually it
has something to do with sweeps month for ratings. They’ve done this in the past and eventually had put
Alby back on regularly. But since Sherri Jo said they’d eventually phase Adventure Bound off for good
who knows. We’re all scratching our heads over here. Luckily we’ve seen his docos many times.
Hi Im Paco Gonzalez I drove the yellow Jeep trough the jungles of

Somehow - and I admit I wasn't exactly searching for it (in fact I
looking for golf websites) - I came across your web site. I remember queues
around the block in my hometown of Echuca when WSII came out (I remember em
cos I was in em, with my best mate).
I have a few bizarre coincidental connections with your web site
blew me away. OK, they aren't that strange, but there you go. The first is
Dan Weadon. I came across the name in your page and thought "I wonder if
that's the Dan Weadon I know". As it turns out it is, but I have to say his
background as an Alby Fan was news to me - the sly old dog.
The second is the specific mention of 7 October (the date you
email from The Great Man) - that's my birthday. OK, so that one's not so
The third is the Kirribilli Hotel - my brother used to work there.
grant you, though, that ones not too impressive either.
There are a few other, lesser connections (I have a job which
South Pacific, for instance, and I've spent time in Manaus) but it was the
first few in combination that I just found a pretty astounding co-incidence.
In fact, it's such an astounding co-incidence that if I had a camera here,
all I'd need was a minor tragedy and I could make my own imitation of an
Alby film - the drama! The action! The lack of coherence!
Anyway, I have to run, but congratulations on building a web site
brought back so many memories.
PS: I'm going to devote the rest of my life to Alby.
- Alby's Chicks - "where are they now?"
- A gallery of photo's and short video's of Alby's Chicks
- A biography on Alby's life including what he has been up to over the last 10
years or so.
- Alby's tasting notes on the current vintage of Wolf Blass wines
- Easy do it yourself lessons on how to fly (or not fly) a helicopter
- How to pick up chicks like Alby's Chicks in 5 easy steps
- They could also include a scale model of the "Gretta Marie" which one could
easily assemble at home.

We love Alby - any news on the great man himself - World Safari 4 - is
this coming out soon? Does Alby have any projects underway? - Scott
is very keen to join him.
You know I once got a lovely card on my 1st wedding anniversary from
Alby - wishing me all the best in life - he really is a true romantic -
with a kind heart - I guess a little unluck in love.......

My husband, Steve and I and friend Scott regularly watch Alby's
(we bought 4 on video - a few years ago). We think he is misunderstood and
has a certain comedy element to his documentaries.........
We just love to watch his shows, have a couple of beers - one of our
favourites is Kangaroo Island and in NSW where he is chasing the wild white brumby -
and Alby wears several different changes of clothes in the one shot........
All the different girls etc..........We would love to meet Alby in a

and discuss his documentary..........do you know when he is next in Melbourne (tell him we
will shout the beers and dinner).
What an exciting web page! I first discovered alby watching
travel channel. and soon became hooked on adventure bound.
Every day from 5pm-6pm I would watch. HE IS AN INSPIRATIONAL INDIVIDUAL SO RESPECTFUL AND SINCERE WHEN IT COMES TO CULTURES OF PEOPLE. WE NEED MORE PEOPLE WITH A MIND SET LIKE ALBY IN THIS WORLD! I AM A TRUE FAN OF HIS AND I APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO SEE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD AND DIFFERENT PEOPLE THROUGH THE EYES OF HIS SERIES ADVENTURE BOUND. I WOULD LOVE TO GET A HOLD OF ANY ADDITIONAL VIDEO, BOOKS, OR ARTICLES PUBLISHED BY ALBY. IF YOU COULD E-MAIL ME WITH THAT INFO. I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT. I HOPE TO GET AN E-MAIL SOON!
Just been checking out your awesome site about our Alby. I've
just been travelling with my own 80s throwback icon (my 42
year old bachelor brother) who's been making all kinds of Alby-esque comments and trying to pick up every Vietnamese chick
in sight. I NEED to get this man an Alby t-shirt for Chrissie. I'll be back in Oz a couple of days before then, in Brisbane -
where can I get a shirt in time? Is there somewhere that sells these sort of things? Can you help me? Or do I have to make my
own shirt? Where can I get a good copy of some classic pictures of Alby that i can print and get on a shirt of my own?
Any help would be appreciated. Sick work, mate!
[Answer - check out Alby's website where you can get this stuff:
Alby sold his vessel and is now a charter vessel in the Whitsunday's
I am not sure of the company she is with but can get that information if you need it.
Zenani was vessel no 3 and we have now just sold vessel no 38.
Hope this helps.

March of 2002 ,as you know their is another web-site that deals with Alby folklore.I have heard
mention that ALBY was not making any video's any longer. It would be a shame if that were the case.I
have used his videos as a sauce of inspiration taking me to places were I will never go (illness) Alby has

In December , 2002, I had the experience of meeting a handsome,
and enjoying his company for a brief time. I had no idea who he was until
after he was gone, when I checked out the web site. I have visited since then
from time to time, to discover more of who he is and what he is about. I am
amazed. For those of you who wonder, he is alive for I have seen him! A Lady in Florida.

[Somehow we at the House of Alby get mistaken for Alby
I don't want to chum up the waters with a bunch of nonsense, so I'll be brief. Alby was my hero on public
TV about three years ago. I've been moving around a lot since then, but now have settled down. I'm in
Lucedale Mississippi, 39452 and would very much enjoy watching Ably adventures again. Where? How?
What channel? I'm there.
[Anyone have any info about Alby's broadcasting successes
Is Alby still on TV? If so what network, channel, time, ect.?

I must say i was very impressed with how comprehensive
it is as well as how much enthusiasm you have for the
subject. Needless to say Alby is deserving of so much
attention. I have many fondchildhood memories of

I'm working on a new nostalgia-based series for channel seven and we're keen[The initial communication regarding 'Where Are They Now'!]
