SEPTEMBER 2007
Its Here! - the 2007 Queensland Poetry Festival
Queensland Poetry Festival

Festival Web Site.

Check out Alicia’s poetry each month at SpeedPoets - a community of writers, engaging people with poetry in a very public forum held at the Alibi Room, New Farm. It is a space for artists to meet, perform and establish networks within their local community. There is nothing that specifically defines SpeedPoets.

It is what it is - a creative space where many of Brisbane's finest poets/rappers/writers experiment with words backed by local band Shooting People. The gig is held on the first Sunday of the month and runs from March to November each year. Each month there is a feature poet and open mic. The gig runs from 2pm to 5:30pm.

Death before Dishonour: Brisbane’s Arcade Murder will be launched at the 2007 Brisbane Writer’s Festival. Presented by Jack Sim and Written by Alicia Bennett.

Bronia Mary Armstrong was 19 years of age when tragically murdered by her employer, 49 year old Reginald Wingfield Spence Brown on Friday the 10th of January 1947.

The crime took place in the rooms of the Brisbane Friendly Institute Society where both Bronia and Brown worked. Bronia’s body lay within the premises until discovered by Nurse Lorna Major at the opening of Saturday morning surgery. Brown was quickly arrested and tried for the murder.

Ex-police detective Alicia Bennett explores the evidence and with Jack Sim, publisher of the popular, Murder Trails series presents over 50 photographs, some never before published.
