What's the deal?

Screen Resolution is how many pixels (dots of light) on the screen that your PC is set to show. This is not related to and not dependent (well, not really) on size of the screen (some screens are 14", 15", 17", 19"). What does matter is whether the designer of the Access forms has designed for:

1024x768 or 800x600 or 640x480

If you are running at a resolution higher than what the design was set for, you see a smaller Access form, if you run at a lower resolution, then you only see some parts of the Access form.

A few examples (click on the thumbnail images to see in full)

1024x768
1024x768
800x600 Northwind
800x600
640x480
640X480

Access developers can spend more time and programming to make their screens auto-resize - but that adds complexity and $$$ work to the budget.

It's already designed, what can you do?

  1. Find out what resolution the developer has been asked to design to.
  2. Find out what resolution your PC is currently set at. (Hint - click on the thumbnail images above to see which one roughly fits when your browser is full screen.
  3. Adjust your resolution

How do I adjust my resolution?

There may be an icon on your system tray that allows you to do this.

Otherwise, right click on the desktop:

Desktop Right Click Menu

Choose Properties, then move the slider to suit the resolution that you are trying to get at.

Um, that doesn't work

Maybe your PC hardware does not offer a high enough resolution. Unlikely, most 1995 and later PCs should be able to do this. Exception is notebooks / laptops whose screen maximum might be 800x600.

Maybe your PC's software video drivers are not properly installed. Get your IT person to fix that. Tell them to have a look at Windrivers Video drivers page or the manufacturer's website / CD that came with the PC.

Maybe you have set a non standard Font Size (see dialog above) - most people use Small Fonts but some people use Large Fonts. Some others change the fonts on every Windows object - try and get back to the standard.
