Welcome to 'Recipe of the Month'

Tasty dishes that give you freedom from arthritis and pain.

At the beginning of each month I will be posting a Tip and Recipe for arthritis sufferers for you to enjoy pain-free. All my recipe had to be 'passed' by my family before they was allowed to be included in my cookbook Pain-Free Living, a cookbook for arthritis sufferers

My family's criteria: tasty, easy to prepare, colourful, healthy, look like regular foods, and full of 'normal' ingredients!  All my recipes are Dairy-Free.  Many are Gluten-Free.

Month Recipe Tip of the month
May 07 Spanish Omelette As well as sharing my regular Spanish omelette recipe, I have included an Advanced Variation for those of you who are well established on the Pain Free Living diet.  Give it a try and enjoy.
April 07 Red Capsicum Sauce The supermarket shelves are lined with mouthwatering sauces, dressings, dips and spreads, but nearly all contain ingredients that cause arthritis sufferers problems.  Analyze your favourite sauce.  Swap ingredients to suit the Pain Free Living diet and know you need never miss out on scrumptious dishes!  Here is one to get you started
March 07 Chicken & Spinach Terrine When I wrote Pain-Free Living, alternatives to cows' milk were very scarce so I used soy flour in many of my recipes.  If you wish you can substitute soy milk, soy lite or rice milk for the same result.  Sometimes you may need to add a little less liquid to compensate.  Alternatively use rice flour or cornflour.  All my recipes are dairy-free and many are gluten-free
February 07 Decaf Cappuccino What about tea and coffee?  Both Tea and coffee are on the 'YES' list on the Pain Free Living diet.  However some people, like myself are upset by caffeine.  Decaf coffee and tea are readily available, also other tea and coffee substitute - but please check the ingredients and watch for any discomfort.  Check ingredients list also on the many available herbal teas as they often contain fruit and lemon grass which can cause pain and stiffness.  My cup of 'tea' is made from boiled water and rice milk. It is pleasantly sweet and refreshing and pain-free, and I was pleased to discover recently one of my quilting friends does the same with soy milk.
January 07 Carrot and Celery juice The start of the new year is a great time to revamp your life.  Try the Pain-Free Living Diet for just one month and feel the difference.  That's what I did when I was in my mid 30's, and rid myself of arthritis forever!  I have included a list of foods you can and can't eat as well as over 200 nutritious, mouthwatering recipes, everyday menus and easy lifestyle tips in Pain-Free Living. Read success stories of arthritis sufferers who made the changes.
December 06 Yolk-free Sandwich Cake  I am often asked:  How do you find the discipline to stay on the Pain-Free Living diet?  I reply:   It's not about discipline. It's about choosing to stay with pain, swelling and stiffness, or make minor changes to the foods you are already eating and forget pain and arthritis.  Which do you choose?
November 06 Grilled Chicken Look after your bones!  Plenty of foods other than dairy products contain calcium needed for healthy bones.  A comprehensive list can be found in ‘Nutritional value of foods’ in Pain Free Living. Substitute cows milk for calcium fortified soy or rice milk.  Take calcium supplements with magnesium for better absorption.
October 06 Deep-sea Bream with Crunchy Nut filling Regularly check the ingredient list of your purchases.  Food companies are always changing the list of ingredients even on the most popular well known products.  These changes can cause you pain, stiffness and swelling.
September 06 Chinese Stir-fry Vegetables Always eat fresh, brightly coloured vegetables to gain the benefit of their goodness.  Local or Home grown are the best - packed with nourishment that the commercially grown varieties lack.  Try growing your own vegetables in your garden or in pots.  They are easy to grow and you'll love the taste!
August 06 Salmon Lasagna Gluten free products are now readily available in supermarkets and health food store.  Gluten free spaghetti and lasagne are easy to cook and taste just as good!
July 06 Cream of Pumpkin Soup Since publishing Pain-Free Living, new products have become available.  As well as soy milk, rice milk is an excellent milk alternative.  Because rice milk is thinner than soy milk, use less in the recipes.  I always buy the calcium fortified varieties.
