What is arthritis?

  • Arthritis is the inflammation of one or more of the joints between the bones in the body.

  • The disease is crippling and painful and affects people of all ages.

  • People diagnosed with arthritis suffer from swelling and stiffness in the joints, resulting in pain and the inability to move easily.

  • There are now drugs available that reduce swelling and bring some relief to sufferers, as well as a number of natural remedies that can bring some relief.

  • Diet can also play a large part in the relief of pain.

Based on a simple Fisherman's diet of fish, rice & vegetables to which other foods can later be re-introduced, it restricts the range of food that can be eaten. Red meat, fruit, all dairy products excluding egg whites, and many spices are excluded and the recipes are low in saturated fats and salt.

When faced with such a restricting diet the prospects can seem daunting but the recipes in this book can show you that food can still be a gastronomic delight and a journey of discovery. It can be colourful, tasty, nutritious and, above all, pain free.
