Introduction

Whenever I go to a petshop, I never go straight to the furry pets like kittens and puppies. I have two dogs and two cats. However I always look at the fish and fishtanks etc.  In Holland I had my own tank (from memory about 3 foot). I always wanted an aquarium so in 2004 we bought this tank for 'only' AUD 500 orso.  We realised that there were some minor things not right, but I could fix these.  

While working on fixing or improving this fishtank I learned from the many mistakes I made. The first mistake: "If it sound to good to be true, it probably is!"  This fishtank was cheap, and I spend many hours and $$ fixing it. I also need to rely more on my gut feeling.  

My goal is to create an 'underwater rainforest', a picture worth looking at, even if no fish were visible! a real-life planted aquarium. Another name for this is a Dutch aquarium.  I did do quite a bit of research, but some items I could not get, or was difficult to get. for example special soil for the plants was about AUD 100 a bag, and I would have needed 2!  another item is some form of CO2-adding machine.  quite expensive or a bother.  so I didn't bother! This is the tropics , so ideally one of these AUD700-1000 water coolers....  Have a look at the  'Aquarium setup' - page, where I explain how I have set-up my aquarium.

Currently I have the following fish in my aquarium:

	2	Botia Macracantha - clown loach. Getting a bit big. when I change the substrate, I will also get rid of these fish, they are about 6 inches or 15 cm now.

	?? - at least 2, but hard to find!	Otocinclus Flexilis
	1 female and1 male	Ramireze - blue ram -  Interesting 1 female change to male!
	5 (2m, 3f)	Pacific blue eye
	6 (3f, 3m)	Dwarf Rainbow fish
	7	brachidanio rerio -  Danio 1 old leopard danio 2 leopard danio 2 gold danio 2 other ones LOL
Total fish	27 +	over crowded??.
We bought a 3 foot tank. When I finish paint the house we will set up this tank.  I will put the fish in this tank, while I refurbish the big tank.  Will explain what I have done later.

Some of my plants:

	Red tiger Lotus - sadly mine dont look as good as these... mine got very small for some reason.
	Sagittaria Natan - tough plant grow anywhere!
	valisneria torta - very easy to grow.
	Echinodorum amazonicus - broad amazon sword.
	Banana lily. this is a beautiful plant has tiny white flowers popping out of the surface....  the lights is filtered and this seem to help my plants on the bottom to grow!
