To be a communication bridge between the people with a hearing loss and the wider community 

To provide a greater inclusion of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired people.

Who or what is Signing-Hands

The biggest concern for most hearing people who work or socialize  with a person who is Deaf is: communication.

Signing-Hands  is working to overcome this by becoming a partner in communication.

Signing-Hands achieves this by:

• Interpreting
• Deaf Awareness Presentations
• Auslan Courses - not offered in 2008  ( we recommend Deaf Services Queensland)

Signing-Hands  services all industries that have Deaf and Hearing Impaired people as employees, customers, clients or patients.

Signing-Hands  is based in Townsville and service the area in Queensland between Innisfail - Mt Isa - Mackay, Australia.

2008 upgrade!

 I have created this website using MS Frontpage 2000.  However, since 2000  the web has changed so much, that we feel this web needs a total overhaul.  Starting in October 2007, I  researched all the standards, software needed etc. 

In the holiday season I plan to start the "Signing-Hands Web site" project.

December 2007 - March 2008

•  purchase the software needed, currently uhmming between to upgrade Frontpage to Expression Web, or to go the whole hog and get Dreamweaver
  • I bought Adobe Web Standard CS3 and Adobe Design Standard CS3
• learn the skills - normally grab a book and learn, but I may do a course at TAFE as well
  • currently studying Cert IV in Webdesign. This is my first attempt at using 'Contribute CS3'
    • Webdesign principles
    • Javascript

(overlapping) Jan - ?? 2008 

• create this web from scratch using the latest standards of CSS, XHTML etc, but copy-paste much of the content
• Auslan-video clips
• downloadable PDF-files of forms, newsletters and news items
• photo albums of us and our animals

Gradually I am considering to add

• members forum 
• chat room for members
• personal blog (or link to)
