Introduction
Terry and I are both great animal lovers. I have had dogs, cats,
guinea pigs, budgies (budgerigars) in Holland. I worked for free in a
horse riding school, because I wanted to be with these beautiful animals. I
also studied to be a animal carer. (nearly finished a Vet nurse diploma) In
Australia I have had dogs, cats, one-winged kookaburra, galah, cockatiels. I was
an 'instructor' at a dog obedience club in the Barossa Valley. Terry
had dogs and cats.
So it is no surprise that our married life was always enriched
with animals. Apart from our share of dogs and cats we also had cockatiels
and fish.
Please let us introduce to you our current animals. Also
have a look at the photo gallery!

Muzby & Sheba
Sheba
In about 1997 a friend told us that a deaf blue heeler was in the
paper. When we inquired about this dog, we learned that she was 4 months
old and that the breeder wasn't quite sure what to do with her. However, if
nobody wanted her, she would be put down. We decided that nobody is going to be
put down because it is Deaf! The breeder called her Freckles, but we
changed the name to Sheba. this is her when she was a pup.
Who could resist such a cute face?
Muzby
In those days I also had a dog called Max ,
a Blue Heeler X Border Collie. He was the most clever dog I ever had! He
rounded up the sheep, was the fastest at agility at the local dog club, and also learned the companion
dog (CD) standard very quick! He and I learned these things at the 'Kapunda Dog
club" Sadly he died February 2005. We decided not
to get another dog, one dog was enough... However, in July 2005 or so, QDS send us a picture of a
white puppy that was Deaf:
Who can resist this photo? This dog is a Australian Coolie and his original
name was "Tennessee". We took awhile in choosing a name. Terry
looked on the internet for original names. She eventually found the name
"Muzby". An unusual name isn't it? It comes from: "we must
be (=muzby) crazy to get another Deaf dog." We went especially to
Brisbane to pick him up!
&
Chloë
and Sofie
Chloë
What do you do when a tiny little kitten looks through your window. You say
aaaawwww and take him in right? Well that was the easy bit: choosing a
name
that we both agreed upon was harder! Eventually we settled on Chloë, with
the 'two dots' above the 'e'. In Dutch we need this to create the o-e sound.
Without these 'two dots' it would become a sound like "book" or "Chloo".
this cat came in our lives in Adelaide. Terry seem to remember that we had
Chloë before Sheba. I cant remember these details... This would
mean that this cat is currently quite old!
Sofie
We had continuously 2 cats. However, all the names I have forgotten. I
remember that we had a beautiful Russian Blue called Smokey, a tabby called
Sammie.... Sammie came with us from Adelaide, but sadly died shortly after we
arrived here in Townsville. Terry really like to have a tomcat! In my travels I met someone
that went specifically to a closed down nursery to feed a kitten that
lived there. Needless to say I took it home. This was a female, while
Terry wanted a male cat! I gave it quickly to Terry, and while the
kitten was purring against her chest, Terry could not say no! We decided
to call this one Sofie, and again to use the Dutch spelling, just to be
different!
Aquarium These are my other animals. I
will make a specific page just to show how I build my fishtank, and how you
should look after it!
