NSW Samoyed Rescue

NSW Samoyed Rescue was formed to rescue and rehome Samoyeds. Samoyeds are saved from death-row in Sydney’s pounds and shelters or may be surrendered into the organisation due to owner's insufficient time, marital breakdowns, financial crises, or sometimes are referred to us due to neglect by alerts from council complaints or RSPCA inspections. More than often Samoyeds come into care due to no fault of their own, and often just need a little TLC and training to show their true wonderful Sammy nature.

Once in care Samoyeds are provided with medical attention and temporary foster care until a permanent and loving home can be found. All rescue Samoyed's are brushed, washed, flea treated, vaccinated, wormed, de-sexed and microchipped as required. Our animals are available for an adoption fee which helps with the reimbursement of our veterinary costs.

Sometimes dogs arrive in care needing immediate veterinarian attention and require extended time in foster care to recover both physically and mentally. In these cases we also seek sponsorship for these dogs. Sponsorship helps us pay for the extra veterinarian care they need and often special diets so as they can return to proper health as quickly as possible.

Jackson was surrendered in on Xmas eve 2007 after severe neglect due to family breakdown. He was reported to the RSPCA and local council by neighbours for severe neglect and barking. The owners approached the NSW Samoyed Rescue group in a last ditch attempt to save him. Jackson arrived at 9kg. He had scratched most of his fur out and was riddled with fleas and infected wounds. He also had an infection in his jaw which caused him to lose several teeth. Vets shaved what little fur jackson had left on his body to better treat his wounds. For several months jackson was treated with antibiotics and showered with cuddles and love. He paraded around the house and streets with a t-shirt on to protect his sensitive skin while his new gorgeous coat grew through.

Jackson was finally deemed suitable to be rehomed after 12 months of being in foster care. He was permanently adopted in February 2008. Jackson is now the NSW Samoyed Rescue Mascot and attends fund raising and parade events to promote dog rescue. He is also the star of this website and you can see his now smiling face in the background.

NSW Samoyed Rescue is a completely volunteer based organisation where we endeavor to take the foster dogs into our homes and treat them as if they were our own personal dogs. The foster system benefits you in finding your new Samoyed, by providing you with valuable information about the animal gained through the carer's experiences in a home environment. NSW Samoyed Rescue suggests that you consider rescuing a mature aged Samoyed. Often the hard work is done for you because an adult Samoyed may already come housebroken and with a good level of obedience. If the thought of not having as many years of enjoyment with an older dog lessens the appeal of rescuing, then consider this fact – buying a puppy does not guarantee that you will have a dog for 15 years either.
