"I'm just no good", says Neil
Thousands of Australians have forked out big money to see Neil Diamond in Australia
But Neil reckons he's not very a very good performer.
"I'm really a songwriter," he says.
"I like concerts, but for every hour up there on stage you spend 23 hours working with a pen and paper.
"Concert work isn't a real life - that's why I stopped performing for a while."
"I always thought I was a good songwriter, but I never rated myself too highly as a person. I was always an awkward adolescent who was no good at sport and always bombed out with the chicks".
It's taken a long time for Australian promoters to lure him here. The deal was all set up after months of bargaining at the beginning of 1975 - then Diamond cancelled out. This time he's a definite starter
