The Real Neil
More than 20,000 people at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl saw an
event they has dreamed of - "Hot August Night", live.
Neil Diamond gave an enthralling performance.
At times the audience seemed so deeply entranced it almost forgot to applaud.
Diamond is a unique performer whole intensity in some numbers is staggering. He appears dedicated to giving his audience everything.
On stage, he as an ability to relate directly with almost everyone in the audience.
He laughs, jokes, but is always in control.
Early , the concert seemed to be becoming a request show but after he lightheartedly went through the audience's demands, Diamond eased back into his own well balanced, carefully planned program.
The performance was set against an excellent musical background and well designed staging. The lighting was tasteful and the tight well rehearsed backing bands the finest the country has seen
In all concerts, particularly outdoor shows, the sound engineering is critical, but last night the mix was faultless. The slightest feed back was rectified quickly.
It was a superb show by a brilliant performer.
