Kayak Fishing

Tweaking the Sounder

by Gavin C.

After a less than pleasant first time out on the kayak I have made some adjustments, for the better I hope.

I have installed a second 'rod holder' into the hull and used the foam rubber plug theory to enable the wiring for the unit to travel within the hull.

I have done away with the velcro, it worked but I found it looked very tacky and for those who are looking at using it the unit must be mounted toward the front of the compass mount otherwise you're breaking your neck to see it.

I currently have the transducer suctioned to the side of the hull with a suction cap from one of those suction capped navigation lights.

The wiring comes out of the 'rod holder' at the rear of the hull. I tried this at Hinze Dam and paddled around for several hours without a problem.

The next thing I'll try is using the transducer through the hull by sticking it in some grease or vasoline. I will report later.
