Co-incidence or Voodoo?
by Ross C.
The very first lure I bought (on the advice of my local tackle store) after I got my Lake Samsonvale permit was a "Voodoo" deep diving plug in green, red, yellow, and black.
On my first trip in winter 2003 I started the first troll but had far too much line out which caught the new lure on a snag when rounding a point. As I was new to this lake trolling stuff and didn't think to bring my "Tackleback" device along, of course, I broke the line while trying to free it and lost the lure.
Being a bit peeved about this, instead of moving on with another lure, I paddled around the area for about 10 minutes when "lo and behold" the lure floated to the surface with about five metres of broken line attached and I was able to retrieve it.
A couple of months later I was back in the same lake trolling the very same lure above the old river bed when I paddled past something suspended vertically just under the surface. Closer inspection revealed that it was a lure securely tethered on about seven metres of line to a snag below but, because the lake had dropped to its lowest level in several years, I was able to reach down and pull it free.
To my surprise the lure was another "Voodoo" and very close in colour scheme to the one I was currently trolling. It was covered in algae, both trebles had completely corroded away just leaving rust marks on the body, and the edge paint was missing where the bib entered the body. I reckon it must have been under water for up to two years (maybe since the permit scheme first started) for the hooks to have completely rusted through and fallen off. However, simply with a good scrub and the addition of two new trebles, it was put back in working order (see bottom lure in the photo) and recently took a 43cm bass.

I now own "twin" Voodoo lures that "re-appeared" within 100 metres of each other so perhaps there was some "Lake Magic" involved.
