Dohles Rocks

Dohles Rocks is on the north bank of the Pine River less than half an hour north of Brisbane.

Getting there

Heading north from Brisbane along the Gympie Arterial Road-Bruce Highway. 1.5km north of the Pine River bridge take the Dohles Rocks exit and turn right into Dohles Rocks Road. After about 2.5km the road meets the Pine River at the boat ramp and then runs along the river bank for another 0.5km.

Launching

The river bank, from the boat ramp downstream to the end of the road, consists of a rock retaining wall about one metre high. At several places along the bank there are either steps or ramps down the wall onto a shallow sandy beach. Any of these places are suitable for kayak launching depending on where you can park and whether you are heading upstream or downstream and want to save a few hundred metres paddling! The beach is submerged at high tide, in which case it is easier to launch at one of the ramps than at the steps.

Facilities

There is a small shelter and toilets alongside the boat ramp. Further along there are BBQs and tables. There are a couple of boat hire places that also sell bait.
