Little Rocky Point

Little Rocky Point is a couple of kilometres north of Cabbage Tree Point about 45 minutes south of Brisbane. It is an ideal launch site to access the northern end of the Jumpinpin area, including: the mouth of the Logan River; Russell Island; and Cooby Passage.

Getting there

Take the Pacific Motorway out of Brisbane, heading for the Gold Coast. Take Exit 38 onto Jacobs Well Road. About 13 kilometres along Jacobs Well Road turn left onto Mill Road and follow it for about 2.5 kilometres before taking a right turn onto Holmstead Road. After about 800m turn left onto Rocky Point Road.

The last kilometre of Rocky Point Road passes through mangrove swamps before rising up to Cecil Zipf Park. Immediately before the road starts to rise you will see a narrow dirt road on the right. This dirt road takes you the the launch site at the foot of the bluff.

Launching

The shore at Little Rocky Point is dominated by gently sloping rock. Fortunately this rock is not too slippery, although care should be taken. At high tide this rock is mostly covered. At low tide there are quite a few rocks just off shore but these are easily seen and do not hinder launching.

Facilities

There are no facilities at the launch site, and only enough room for three or four vehicles. Back track to the sealed road then turn right, up the hill, to Cecil Zipf Park where you will find a picnic table, rubbish-bin, and toilets.
