Toorbul
Toorbul is a small village on the western shore of the Pumicestone Passage less than an hour north of Brisbane. It is an ideal launch site to access the mouths of Elimbah Creek to the north or Ningi Creek to the south. The Pumicestone Passage directly out from Toorbul has a mixture of sand flats, gutters, weedbeds, and rock outcrops.
Getting there
Heading north from Brisbane along the Bruce Highway, take the Pumicestone Road exit and turn east. Continue along Pumicestone Road — about 14kms — until it ends at a tee-intersection at Freeman Road. Turn left into Freeman Road then, about 200 metres later turn right into the Esplanade. The boat ramps and parking area will be on your left.
Launching
I leave the first ramp for trailer boats and head to the second ramp at the end of the carpark. This is a long single lane concrete boat ramp. The beach here is quite shallow so low tide goes out a fair way but the ramp doesn't seem to get to slippery and the beach is firm to walk on carrying a kayak.

Facilities
Along the foreshore there are picnic tables, barbeques, play areas, toilets, and rubbish bins. There is a tavern opposite the boat ramp and a camping ground on the corner of Freeman Road and the Esplanade.
