Lake Wivenhoe - Logan Inlet

by Ross C.

Lake Wivenhoe is the largest water storage in the Brisbane area and is stocked with Bass, Golden Perch, Silver Perch, Mary River Cod, and Saratoga. In recent years the naturally breeding populations of Fork-Tailed Catfish have become the most common and easiest fish caught, responding enthusiastically to a wide range of bait, lures, and flies.

A Stocked Impoundment Permit is required to fish this lake (and covers 29 dams in total). The permit cost is $35 per annum and can be purchased on-line at Smart Service Queensland.

Getting there

Wivenhoe is about an hour and a half drive North West of Brisbane City. It can be accessed either via Mt Glorious or via Fernvale and, once there, the various recreational areas are well signed by SEQWater.

For "Northsiders" Logan Inlet is 73km (an hour drive) from Samford (via Mt Glorious).

Launching

There is a boat ramp at Logan Inlet with a wide sloping grassy area beside it from which Kayaks can easily be launched and plenty of car parking bays are located nearby.

Facilities

When we visited Logan Inlet in February 2005 the kiosk had a sign that it had relocated to Cormorant Bay. We went to that kiosk but it was closed at the time.

Shelter Sheds, Playground, Barbeques, Kiosk (not always open), Car Parking, Toilets, grassy lawns for picnicking.

This would be a good venue to bring the family for a "barbie" on the weekend and hopefully they might even be able to amuse themselves for a few hours while you have a fish in Logan Inlet.
