| Report: | This was my first visit to Pimpama River. I find that low tide is a good time to explore a new area as it is easier to find channels, holes, rocks, snags, and any other structure that may be covered at later stages of the tide. |
|   | I started with a few casts around the oyster-covered rocks downstream of the boat ramp and within minutes had landed an estuary cod of about 30cm. A few more minutes casting and nothing else showed so I headed downstream exploring. |
|   | There are plenty of yabby banks and small drains adjacent to deeper water — areas that would be well worth targeting for flathead on a run-out tide. |
|   | Near the mouth of the river there is a large area covered with oyster racks. I took a couple of drifts along here with no result so paddled over to a nearby sand bank. Here I foul hooked a 10cm bream. By this stage the tide was picking up and the wind was getting above its forecast 15knots so I headed back upriver. |
|   | I finally hooked up again almost in the same place as I'd caught the estuary cod. This time it was a bream of about 28cm. |
|   | Next time I head down to the Pimpama River I think I'll try for the last half of the run-out tide and target flathead off the yabby banks and drains. Next winter may see me chasing bream around the racks and the oyster covered rocks. |
