Nadia - the Secret of Blue Water: Illusion of Peace. written by Jussi Nikander Nadia is copyright by Gainax, not used under authorisation. Please don't sue me, I don't have any money. SPOILER WARNING! This fic contains some spoilers for the ending of Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Le Havre, France, 15.8.1914 Looking over the serene, French countryside, it is hard to believe that our country is at war. Has been for almost two weeks. Is humanity's memory really this short? It has been only a quater of a century since they barely escaped being enslaved by Neo-Atlantis, and now they're fighting because one prince was killed by some fanatic. It is ridiculous, stupid, utterly moronic! They've already caught the one responsible for the murder, what's the need to draw thousands, no, millions of innocents into this mess? Sometimes I wonder who are more insane. Our leaders, who started this war, or those young men who have left for the front. I watched them leave, carefree and full of confidence, like they knew that they would win this war. They seem to think this is some kind of picnic near the German border. Fools. For several times already I have cried for their memory, for many of them will never again see their home. And those who do return, will come back as murderers. I thank all my ancestors that my own children are still too young to be drawn into this madness. But Jean... the men from the government are here again. They are again trying to get Jean to design new weapons for them. So far, I've been able to make him say no each time, but I can see how his eyes glow when they ask. Glow from the anticipation. I know a large part of him wants to go with them, go and design new machines and equipment, go with the government's backing so he can have the best possible help. Go to design weapons, machines of destruction. I only hope his love for me is greater than his love for his occupation. For if goes with them, there is no way I can love him any more. No way I can love a murderer... For a long time I stand there, looking towards the horizon. Finally Jean comes to stand beside me, wrapping an arm around me. "Well?" "I still remember the Tower of Babel, Nadia." Thank goodness. We can still have at least an illusion of peace. fin. Author's notes. Ever since I saw Nadia, I have wanted to write a Nadia fanfic. The trouble was, Nadia's ending was pretty final. Neo- Atlantis was destroyed and Nautilus' crew all went their separate ways. Then, suddenly I got an idea. Nadia happened in year 1889. Surely the cast would still be alive when the first World War started. This is the end result. I also have an idea for a similar fic, starring Hanson, as well as one small idea for a Grandis fic. We'll see if I ever get around writing them. About Nadia and Jean's children. They were married in year 1897 (five years before 1902, when the epilogue happens), so their eldest kid isn't any older than 16. An age where Nadia can still keep him from joining the army. And I don't think her children would be military fanatics. And I do know there were lots of other reasons, besides Ferdinand's murder that started WW 1. But I think this is how Nadia would have felt. Now, I wonder if somebody had posted a Nadia fic to the FFML before me... ^_^
