In the early Pioneer days of South Australian settlement (1837-1900) there appear to have been only four Dew families. The above George Dew and his wife Dinah Pomeroy, arrived in South Australia with their infant daughter, Ann Elizabeth on the vessel BABOO in 1840.

The other three Dew families were James Dew and his wife Fanny Dunning who arrived in 1851 on board the MARION. 1857, saw another vessel called MARION, arriving in Port Adelaide. On board were George Dew with his wife Jane Hillman and five children. Also on board the MARION of 1857 were Jessie Dew with his wife Ann Adlam and their six children.

These later Dew families were all from Dilton Marsh, Westbury, Wiltshire and it is possible that all three families are related, certainly the later George and James appear to be brothers. George and Dinah Dew, on the other hand, were from the Salisbury area of Wiltshire and, as yet, do not appear to be related to the later Dew families. They are included in these Family History web pages because a lot of research was done on the family in an endeavor to differentiate them from our own Dews.
