Alice Maskell and George Harvey met during WW1. George enlisted in South Australia in January 1916 and sailed with the 32nd Battalion to fight in France in March 1916. In November of 1916 George developed a severe bout of rheumatic fever and was sent to convalesce at the 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham,UK. It was probably at this time that he first have met Alice.
In March 1918 George suffered a serious shoulder wound while fighting in France and was evacuated to Canterbury, Wiltshire UK where Alice visited him during his re-couperation.
They married in August 1918, and returned briefly to George's home town of Willaston, South Australia in September 1919. Their first two children, William and Doreen were born in South Australia. But Alice greatly missed her family in England and
found the South Australian climate unbearably hot. The family returned to Birmingham, England during the
early 1920's where the rest of their many children were born. They lived the latter part of their long and devoted lives
together in Maryvale Road, Bourneville, Birmingham, England.
