Australian Bunworth's at War

This page has been dedicated to those in the Bunworth family that have served the Australian Defence Forces and served at the various wars.

Richard Francis Bunworth, was born in 1893 at Wilcannia, New South Wales.  His parents were Richard Bunworth and Margaret Crawford.  Richard Francis was a driver in the Australian Imperial Forces, in 1st D.A.C. He enlisted for service on 28 April 1915.  His next of kin is listed as his sister - Mrs Ettie Swalwell of Adelaide. After the war Richard Francis moved to Sydney.

Joseph Francis Bunworth, was born in 1895 at Beechworth, Victoria  His parents were Denis Francis Bunworth and ?.  His father is listed as next of kin on his enlistment form, which is dated 11 January 1915.  Joseph was killed in action on 2 May 1915 at a place called Dead Mans Ridge at Gallipoli.  He served in the 16th Battalion. His father, Denis Francis is noted as residing in Kalgoorlie, WA at the time of Joseph's death.

John (Jack) Bunworth enlisted on 11 March 1916, and was assigned to 24th Battalion.   He was 21 years and 8 months when he enlisted, and states Donald, Victoria as his place of residence.  His next of kin was his father - William Bunworth.

There are also letters from Jack to his mother during the war.

Denis Francis Bunworth enlisted on 1 November 1916 and was assigned to 22nd Battalion. He was from Byaduk, Victoria and lists his mother Mrs Ellen Bunworth as next of kin.  Denis was born in 1881 in Byaduk.  At time of enlistment he lists his occupation as a farmer.  He was killed in action in France on 9 June 1918.

Michael Peter Bunworth was born in Byaduck, Victoria in 1886.  He enlisted into the 8th Battalion on the 17th April 1916,  and lists his mother Mrs Ellen Bunworth as next of kin.  He was killed in action, in France.
