Two joined photos showing central and eastern Hamburger and the new backdrop. The tramway straddles the eastern end of the platforms. To the right are the ancient Faller city buildings whilst to the left are the old Airfix girder bridges. Both the buildings and the bridges have found a home after over thirty years in mothballs.

Western Hamburger and the continuation of the backdrop. Note the access hatch in the second betriebswerk.

The photo is of Blick in Oderschlesien. I used the back parts of the photo to create a backdrop over 6 metres in length! Various scale photocopies were made and the pieces cut and placed together to resemble a real panorama. It has been successful in the effect created by the sky blue background meeting the serrated top of the backdrop which was cut around the rooftops, the hazy look due to the photocopies being done on a light setting. Coloured pencils were used to give colour highlights where necessary. Copies of buildings from model catalogues (Faller, Vollmer etc) were coloured in pencil and glued onto the scene to finish off the total effect.
