love is a battlefield

Kate, Adam, i know how much you like this song by Pat Bennetar.
But sadly you are not going to get to hear it sung on the Australian Idol 80's special because Emeila has been thrown out this week.

According to the Herald Sun, she was going to sing it and get all dressed up in a leotard! Anything would be better than her Pauline Hanson look last week though.

What a shame we will miss it.

Melbourne tales

http://melbourne-tales.fotopic.net/c299687.html is where you will find photos from our work snow trip yesterday.

It was lots of fun, but the weather was not very nice to us. Actually, the morning was beautiful but by the arvo the Buller cloud had come in and rendered visbaility to about 2 meters.

The snow was better than i expected for this time of the year, but my favourite run (Little Buller Spur) was cut down to only half the length because the bottom half had only grass and no snow.

Sunday is the last day of the season. I would love to go one more time but i dont think it will happen. But the lift tickets will only be $20, such a wasted opportunity.

But i managed to get my ticket for only $20 yesterday as well. With a melbourne show ticket you got $20 off the price of the ticket. and as yesterday was a tuesday (cheap arse tuseday for tertiary students) i got a futher $20 off. But by the time the others bought their tickets the guy at the register decided that this was not allowed and made them all pay $40 instead. i was just lucky!

Well after looking at Peter and Adams photo albums on their websites, i have decided i needed to get one of my own.

Fotopicgives you 250 mbs of space for nothing!
So thats a far cry from the 10 mb i get with optus.

You can find my photo album at http://melbourne-tales.fotopic.net/

At the moment there are only ones of my trip to the Melbourne Show (aka the Tomato fight), but soon i will put some more up. I promise! Maybe even some belated Europe photos!

Back to school party

Well Friday was kate's "back to school" 22nd birthday in at PA's in Carlton. It was what you could say a night to remember.

having such a theme, you would expect some interesting costumes. I decided that I just had to go in a primary school dress. Not just any one, it had to be a blue check on like I wore back at croydon south primary school all those years back. It took a lot of effort and a lot of scouring the op shops, and I finally found 1 for $4 at savers in greensy.

so I didnt think it would be such a good idea to wear this uniform on the train into the city. I met up with Katie on the train and got changed once we got there.

kate hadn't gotten many RSVPs but it was definately a success. I think there must have been over 40 people at the peak of the party.

I was in charge of the music. over 2 days, Kate and I had collected mp3s and arranged them in a play list. I took my laptop in and we were able to connect it up to their PA system with ease. One problem was, although I had plugged the power cord into an extension cord, that cord itself didn't seem to be plugged into a wall. I didn't realise this until about 5 mink before the battery would have died.

there were lots of people dressed up. Even the guys made an effor. John in his nun outfit was a scream. He went to a catholic school. but I was the only one in primary colors.

I wont spill the rest of the goss of the night though. all I can say that it was truly a "school" party, and everyone acted as such.

really long bike ride!

on wednesday i challenged scott to ride to warburton and back.
and i believe i can say proudly that i won!
i had to wait for him at the top of every hill and by the end he was buggered and i was still fresh as a daisy.

isnt it great to know that you can do something better than someone who is really competitive. and it only took 92km to prove it!

i am not sure if he will accept my challenge next week. 120km to mordialloc and back!

Perils of the bike ride

Now I always thought that cars are my main enemies when I am on my bike.
but now a new enemy has emerged

"the common wasp"

I was riding along the bike track, minding my own business, when a huge wasp decide to jump up at me and attach itself to my leg!

as first I didn't know what had got me. Maybe someone was shooting a gun along the bike track it was that painful.

so when I looked down and saw this huge black and yellow bug stuck to my ankle I was not happy. It didn't want to get off either! But I think I killed it in the process.

but it took at least 30 mins until it stopped hurting. It had been so log since I had been stung by a bee let alone a wasp, I had forgotten what it felt like. Ouch!

VOIP for the masses

My brother in Germany has discovered a cool new way to communicate. Sure you were able to do voice through msn but it sucked.

http://skype.com/ allows you to "call" other people on their computers and even on the telephone.

It works like msn and ICQ and those kind of program in the way that you can randomly talk to people all around the world too. But I think I will just use it to keep in touch with people that I know, such as josh in Germany and my cousin in America.

download it and try it. Its lots of fun!

uni elections

I have decided (after a bit of prodding from kate) that i should get into the spirit of things and run for election on the student union council.

the position i am running for is "undergraduate representative".

so if there are any swinny students out there, vote for me on election day! Kate is also running, but for Campus Chair. So vote for her too!

and then we promise to make Swinburne a better place!

Together we plan (if elected) to fix up the E-lounge on level 4 of the union building once and for all. it is currently a disgrce and i wouldnt want to lounge there. we believe all it will take is a fresh coat of paint and a few clean couches. and maybe a few hands to help out.

dont you love op shops

seeing kate's "Back to school" party is next week, and the fact that i threw out my school uniforms long long ago, i decided that i should try the op shops to see if i could find a replacement.

i would have thought there would be more school dresses at the op shop for some reason, but the selection was pretty poor. needless to say i came home without what i went in for.

but i did find a bargain. a cycling top for only $5! what was that? yes, $5. they are normally around $100 so i was pretty impressed. havent tried it on to see if it fits but i am happy either way.

but i still need a school dress....

Strange horoscopes

I picked up this magazine on the train the other day called "Look".
and according to it, my horoscope for this month is

Robert Palmer is dead. But don't let this stop you from whipping out your little black dress, getting your hair back into a tight bun, painting on some wet-shine lippy and thrusting your pelvis to an eighties synth backing track. Let his spirit live on in your raunch Pisces. Note: this horoscope was completely non gender specific.

Trivia champions no longer...

Due to a lack of turn out this week we were not able to hold our winning position of the week before

also they docked us 3 points for winning the week before!

so we came 3rd. And for some reason 4th place gets a price but 3rd doesn't. Go figure....

but I felt like I made a contribution this week. I managed to answer a questions about "M People" for some reason. Actually the reason was that I saw the CD cover and it had the name of the band on it... ;)

Rain rain go away

Today I decided to ride to Warburton and back. But my plans were awry around wesburn when it decided to piss down with rain.

luckily my cousin lives in wesburn so I dropped in at her house. But she was going out. So I had to find alternative arrangements

but my auntie works in wesburn so I dropped in at her school and ended up staying for 3 hours fixing her website. And the rain continued to pour down.

so I was stuck in wessie with no way of getting home without getting soaked. So I waited for a break in the rain and rode to my garndmas house. She wouldn't let me ride home any further so we packed up my new bike into her car and she insisted she drive me the 40km home.

strangely enough it had stopped raining by now and I could have ridden anyway. And I wish I had because I only got to go 50km instead of the 100km I had planned. My round the bay in a day training plan is not going to plan. I hope I am ready.

but my new bike is nice to ride. I think it will do me well on a bike ride of 210km. Seat is a bit hard though....

I only wish I could have ridden it a bit further today.....

Night on the town

Last night I went out to Fitzroy with Julian and his friends Scott and Jan. I cant remember the last time I went out clubbing and bar hopping. It has been a long time!

we met at julians flat in hawthorn at 9.30. I decided to drive and not drink too much because I has this rotary thing at 9am this morning (which I was late for anyway). So I became the driver and we all squished into my car and headed towards Gertrude street.

first stop was yelza which was really cool, but somewhat expensive. The front part of the building is a kind of lounge bar decorated in a baroque style. You walk through this and out the back into a courtyard where you find an annex building which houses a waster tree inside it along with a bar, dj and dance floor. Hanging from the tree are oriental Lanterns. Kind of an east meets west feel. The bar faces onto a beer garden where if the weather was nice, it would have been good to just chill in. But lucky for us it was like 2 degrees outside! Good bar, but no real talent to be found.

next stop was just next door at a bar I cant remember the name of. We had to move on because yelza closed at 1am! Had an interesting chat to the bouncer about south park for some reason while We waited in the freezing cold. This bar had a nice atmosphere with cool tiles on the walls but the music left us wanting something a bit different. No talent here either :(

that left us only one choice at this hour. I really wanted to go home but Julian and his friends would not let me leave (probably because they wanted a lift home at the end of the night, but it could have been that I was the life of the party?!) . Our remaining choice was "a bar called barry's" and the queue was really really long and it was freezing outside. But we waited patiently for our turn while making friends with other people in the line. This place had a cover charge of $7. No fair. So julians friends were trying to make other people in the line believe that it was a $20 charge. I don't think anyone fell for it. But eventually the line moved on and we got in.

this place is a bit stingy. Kind of reminds me of the atmosphere at daisy's (it was a long time since I have been there). Dance music, sticky floor and lots and lots of people. You could hardly move and I got stepped on a few too many times. But it was fun I guess. I am not really the dancing kind of gal. Give me a good band and a place to sit down to listen any day.

at around 2.30 I finally convinced the others to let me go home. And they decided to leave too. Not before an obligatory stop at the kebab shop for sustenance.

I dropped them back in hawthorn and then crawled into bed at 3.30am. ouch.
I managed to get up at 8.45 to be in boronia by 9.15 so I was pretty proud of myself. Imagine if I had been drinking. I don't think I would have ever made it there on time (or close to it)

julians friends were fun and we have made plans to go out next weekend too when I catch up with Bianca and liesl at bridies in the city.

Perfect example of connex capabilities

Last night, yet again, the trains were delayed coming out of the city.

I had done a bit of shopping on the way home at myer so I was running a it later than usual, but that is no excuse for connex trains to be doing the same

at Melbourne central it seemed that all trains were delayed at least 10 minutes. At one point the belgrave train was coming first, then they changed their minds and it was the lilydale. glen waverly even got a mention for a while

eventually the lilydale line train was chosen as the lucky one. Only 10 minutes late.
so I got on and everything was dandy until ringwood.

for some reason the train pulled into platform 2 and the announcement told us that this train was becoming a belgrave train and that we had to go across the bridge (in the rain mind you) to platform 3.

in the meantime the passengers in the train on platform 3, who thought they were on a belgrave train were told that they also have to change as this one was becoming a lilydale line train. So they also had to cross the bridge in the rain to the train we were just in.

does that make any sense to you? I don't get it either. Everyone would have been happy if they left things as they were and I wouldn't have gotten wet

keep up the good work Connex!

Phone Booth Captures Man

after cold calling all morning, i was chatting with some of the other guys in the office about how i will probably go crazy and end up being strangled by the phone cord

they recommended i see a movie called "Phone Booth Captures Man" which was shown on SBS back in the 80's when they first started broadcasting. From their description it sounds very funny. It was a silent movie, and most likely came from Spain.

does anyone know where i can find this movie?

80's trivia madness

well, our foray into wednesday night trivia didnt go as planned.
the theme was 80's music and having kate's friends adam v1.0 and adam v2.0 along we though we had it in the bag.

but even though we got 59.5 out of a possible 72, and we were probably the youngest table there (remember, most of us were born in teh mid 80's so not really old enough to remember the music), the winners made an astounding 71 points! they only stuffed up a WET WET WET question!

i dont think i contributed very much. only to the questions were it was a choice of 2 options and i could guess.

but it was a fun night. but i like tuesday night trivia better. much more relaxed and more of a chance of winning!

well we did it again

but i am not sure if was kate and my efforts that pulled our team into first place by 1 point. john and his 2 friends who he brought along supported the team and i dont think it would have mattered if i was there or not....

but we won another $50 voucher so we have to go back next week to spend it. all are invited. the more the better.

How rude

A while back I was saying about how I went to a job interview at a company called gap busters (the mystery shopper company) and how I thought I had done really well. They were like "when can you come in for training?", so I thought I was in.

well I never heard back from them

now I thought that it was job interview courtesy that even if you didn't get the job, you get a call to tell you that you were unsuccessful. None of this leaving you hanging stuff.

so I was very unimpressed.

I don't think that it is the interviewee's place to call up to ask if they got the job or not. That is just strange.

even a SMS is better than nothing. This could be cross referenced with my SMS breakup fiasco back in may.

what is happening to this world??

AC/DC lane no longer

what a shame, the city of melbourne has decided to scrap the idea of changing the name of Corporations Lane to AC/DC lane, according to today's age newspaper. Instead they will honor the band with a plaque on Swanston street.

the name change was "not welcomed by some property owners and businesses in the area, who argued AC/DC did not reflect the diverse character of the area". but then again, how does "corporations lane" reflect the character??

cream cheese anyone?

yesterday as i was coming to work, i was handed a container of cream cheese at the station. it wasnt just any cream cheese, but one with "sweet chilli" in it!

dont you just love getting free stuff at the station.
other days i have been given kiwi fruit, tea, muesli bars etc. its nearly always food.

so now teh cheese is sitting in the frideg at work. i will probably never remember to take it home with me so it could be there for a while. but i guess i could bring some nice crusty bread to work and eat it here....... but that requires effort.
