the experiment - update

well lots of emails and "virtual Kisses" but mainly from people who dont fit my criteria. either they cant read what i have written in my profile or they are just stupid. especially on the age thing. i have been getting emails form people who are 40! i dont know what they are thinking. its actually kind of freaky.

Some of the recent emails from relatively normal people have been from:
anddee
bikpela13
ephidrena
Majp25
mysterious1979
kirk304

I would love to put some of the emails up here, but again, i dont think that would be very nice...

the weekend

gosh i have been a busy girl

friday was spent at uni in the morn learning how to be an o-host. it was a bit of a waste of time seeing i have been at swinny for the last 4 years and done o-hosting before.

i left early cause i had scheduled a meeting with my boss at 2pm in at southbank.

then home again to get ready to go at night in the city. its so annoying i live 1 hour away from the city by train. i spend way too much time on the train.

when i got back into the city i met up with christine at 8.30 out the front of young & jacksons , but we were not meeting up with julian and his entourage till 9.30. we were heading towards e55 to while away the hour but got sidetracked into de biers. that place is pretty dodgy. veyr sticky floors and lepard skin on the walls. but they did have the tennis playing on a big screen so i was happy.

next it was to manchester lane to meet up with julian. they have a cover charge there of $7. i hate cover charges. i would rather spend the money on more drinks.

christine and her group were not really impressed with manchester lane so they decided they wanted to go somewhere more dancey (they ended up at heat of all places), but i decided to stay and cough up the $7. i really liked the place, good band, but it was too hot inside so we managed to get a table outside and spent most of the time there.

after a few more people turned up and the outside licence finished we went on down to robot behind vic uni. the bar tender is from saitama, very close to where i used to live when i was on exchange.

next stop was gin palace, where we encroahed on the corner withe cusions, but the people who were already in there didnt seem very happy with us, and they smoked cigars, real smelly ones

by now it was around 3am, and we needed food, so skewers on bourke rd was the place for kebabs, and then a taxi back to julians. i hadnt been planning on staying out past the last train, but i always change my mind and regret it in the morn.

more this time cause when i woke up on saturady it was raining and i hadnt brought a jacket with me the night before. it was so cold! and i had to do an 8 hour shift so i was so tired

but luckily it was not a very busy day so they actually sent me home 2.5 hours early. silly me, i decided i had enough time to go to megu's mums goodbye party in glen waverly. i took the train there from the city, but this would prove to make it very hard to get home again. getting from glen waverly to croydon by train means having to go back into the city again first. luckily i was able to get a lift to nunawading and matt was just finishing work at eastland so he came and picked me up.

home again to get ready for the next party. had inited a few people over for drinks. this was before i had planned to do an almost all night on friday night, so i was kind of regretting it.

but at around 8.30, i wanst sure who was actually coming. dont you hate people who dont rsvp! but i got 10 people together from all different places like work, uni and high school. in the end it was a pretty good night.

lots of drinking (even cracked out the absinthe at one point), lots of playing the piano (badly) for some reason, lots of pool, and a bit of unicycling.

eveyrone left around 3am, and katie and melinda stayed. i woke them up when i was leaving for work this morning. melinda left then, but katie let herself out later.

gosh i am tired now. i cant even be bothered watching the tennis. i wonder if that makes me un-australian...

no good?

i have been told by a friend that my experiment is fatally flawed due to the fact that the subset of men using online dating are the "lowest common denominator" (in his words) and this will not reflect well in my sample.

but then i pointed out that his best friend uses online dating sporadically (i love that word, just needed to put it in a sentace somewhere) and that he is not wierd...

but i think there is some truth in this. the most recent messages i have got are from people well below my criteria....

- women looking for sex geelong (sadly, i dont live in geelong, or anywhere near it)
- mens group uniform melbourne victoria (well.. what more can i say?)
- pretty riding raunch melbourne (what is a raunch?)

but "indonesian legs up" is always a old favourite. i still cant figure out what they were looking for.

big ride

picked up a postcard at the bike shop the other day for a big ride coming up that sounds interesting

the "great divide ride"

80km or 180km circut around the black forest, trentham and the wombat shire forest in western victoria.

anyone want to join me on the 180km leg? even though it is over a mountain, the gradient isnt too bad. nothing like lavers hill.

the experiment - part 3

well i really cant keep up!

way to many messages to keep track of.
its kinda cool to have al these people wanting to meet you. its a change to the way things usually go. if anything, this is going to work as a big ego boost.

but i still find it a very interesting way of going about things. people have two options when it comes to stating their intentions. they can send a "kiss" which is free" or they can send an email with a message which costs them. I previously thought that rsvp was free to send emails, but you apparently need to buy "stamps" which can cost up to $30 for 6 emails! you had really want to contact someone and hope that they write back for that amount.

but saying that, if they send me an email, it often has their email address in it so it doesnt cost me anything to reply. i kinda feel sorry for the guys, its easy for women in this game

well now for an update of my suitors.

Nothing of interest yet

Main issues with these people
- too short
- live too far away
- not inteligent enough
- just plain boring looking
- too old or too young

Gosh i am picky! I think i will have to resurfae my "criteria" post again. i think i have a few changes to make though.

One of the above mentioned men is only after a quick fling cause he is apparently arriving in melbourne this weekend for a business trip... go figure. he obvioulsy didnt read my profile very carefully.

Some of the emails contained interesting messages, some were just "virtual kisses". I thought about putting all the messges up, but that would be a little mean and a volation of privacy. But we will see how this goes.

the experiment - part 1

i have decided that i am always attracted to the wrong kind of people (the kind that are not attracted to me), and this is not a good thing because it always ends in disaster and i am disenhartened.

so i am running an online experiment to find out what kind of people are actually attracted to me, as opposed to the people i am attracted to.

introducing the online dating scene.

now i would like to point out in advance that i am not taking this seriously at all. so noone start worrying about me.

i have signed up to rsvp.com.au and also match.com which is run by ninemsn. i am not going to tell you my login name to save embarrasement, but i will say that everything i have put in the profile is completely true.

rsvp.com.au seems to be a less organised site, but it also seems to be completely free. with match.com you can have a profile for free, but if you actually want to communicate with people you have to pay some monthly fee. thats not on. this experiment needs to stay free. so i think i will follow the rsvp one with more intent.

i have already gotten my first "virtual kiss", (someone sending me a message to say they would like to talk to me more) from "bofter" and "Funky78", but i dont think i will be replying to these ones.

Kirk304 also sent me a message, descibing himself as the "man of my dreams"

Now if by chance any of my "suitors" find this website, i appologize in advance, but this could really make interesting blogging if i keep it up to date. Its funny, i just put the pprofiles up today, and i havealready had 3 people wanting to email me. If only real life dating was this quick.

I will tell more in the next instalment of "the experiment"

carly's restaurant reviews - part 1

after work today i met up with megu and her entourage of japanese guests for dinner down in sydney road brunswick.

the restaurant of choice was called "warrick thai" and came with rave reviews from megu for its cheap and tasty food.

all started out well. i even got a park right in front of the restaurant. even managed a perfect reverse parallel park.

inside the restaurant was very busy and this can be a good or a bad sign. in our case it turned out to be bad. the waitress was actually one of megu's friends from uni, but she was a bit airey.

we ordered for everyone (cause they cant speak english and we couldnt be bothered translating), chosing 3 entrees and 6 mains for the 10 of us.

we got one of our entrees, chicken satays, but the 2 salads we ordered never came!

and then there was a whole lot of issues as to what table what plate belonged to.

finally we got our mains (still no salads) and they came out all over the place.

the food was absolutely great. we couldnt eat it all because there was so much of it. its probably good that the salads never came out.

itsnt a shame when the food is so good (and cheap) but the service is so shit. i would go back again but just for the food. but i feel kind of bad cause i think it was megus friend that stuffed up our order completely.

whiskey for the masses

last night i had a "international whiskey experience"

now i know that bourbon and scotch and irish are actually all whiskey but the name depends on where they are made

i met up with katie at around 6pm and we went off odwn to the hifi bar in swanston st at 6.30. on arrival we were given 2 mixed whiskey drinks to get us in the mood, along with some nice cheese and crackers.

soon we were all led downstairs to where many table had been set up with many glasses of straight whiskey were laid out nicely. i think there was room for about 60 people and it was pretty full.

the host talked us through all the different drinks, where they were made, what made them different, their history etc. it was all very relaxed and cool.

finally it came time to drink them. the host told us that all the drinks on teh table equalled around 3 standard drinks and that all designated drivers should go home.

i am not much of a whiskey drinker. but it was an interesting experience. there was definately a big difference between the jamison from ireland, the chivas regal from scotland and the wild turkey from USA. some was really strong, some tasted likehoney, some smokey etc. Probably my fav would have been the chivas regal because it was slightly sweet but not too over powering.

after all the drinking downstairs it was back up stairs for some more mixed drinks. and then katie and i decided it was about time for dinner, being 9pm and all. so off to fed square for a quick bite then the train home.

too expensive for me

while out touring the yarra valley wineries yesterday with megu and her relatives from japan, i came across a flyer for a series of concerts called "a day on the green"

At Rochford Wines (formally Eyton) they are going to have an outdoor concert with Pete Murray, the Waifs, Tim Rogers and some other girl who i have never heard of.

So i thought this sounded pretty nice, but the flyer didnt have the ticket prices

I just looked them up now.

Ticket price: $68.20
Booking Fee: $7.70
Postage: $5.00
Total: $80.90

Ouch. i dont think i will go along there anymore. NOt as cheap as i was thinking it might be.

I want kandy

because being a porter is a physical job (you know those bags dont get delivered to rooms by themselves), the only way to make it through an 8 hour shift is to eat lollies.

I had this grand plan of going out to the Kenman Kandy factory outlet in Scorseby to buy a few kilograms of jelly snakes and jelly babies beacause we go through them so quickly, buying them from the supermarket just doesnt work.

Well, for some reason their shop is closed! How can this be! and it wont open for a while. what are we going to do in the meantime?

I remember last time i went there to buy lollies was just before i went to Japan in 2003 to get some souvenirs. I took Ben too and he was like a little kid in a candy store. wait a sec, he was in a candy store :) so you are allowed to act that way i guess.

MOMIX - PASSION

Last year when the Momix dance troupe came to melbourne to perform and i saw the ads on TV, i really wanted to go and see it. I am not much of an arty person, especially when it comes to ballet and those kinds of things, but it just looked amazing.

It reminded me of a show i saw when i was in Prague which was all about strange movement and blacklighting. I am so annoyed i didnt make it to the one in melbourne.

But never fear, they are coming back again. This year the show is called Passion (last year it was "cactus"). Its showing at the State Theatre from 8-13 March, tickets starting from $29.

Anyone want to come and see it with me?

grogblogging - the new next big thing!

i wasnt going to go, but i am glad that i did. i was convinced that i was reqired there to make sure that there were sufficient numbers to make it a succesful evening, but they would have succeeded without me, there were heaps of bloggers!!

hetting ther at 8.30 was perhaps a bit early, but that was the time i was told to. of course the people who told me that didnt get tehre themselves till well after that.

i got myself a drink from the nazi bar bitch and settled down in a corner to survey the scene. it was kind of like a blind date, i didnt know who it was i was looking out for. lots of people but were they really bloggers? or normal after work drinkers? it could have been embarrasing to walk up to some guy and say "do you blog?" and get the dead pan stare of "what the fuck is a blog? is it somehow sexual?". I have a lot of friends who have no idea what a blog is and give me a very weird look when i mentioned i went grogblogging.

but soon enough a few faces i knew arrived and they introduced me to people they knew and after not too long we were all life long friends. its funny, we were all wearing name badges with our name and blog and each comversation stared with "who are you" and whats your blog"

i havent been a very good blog reader of late, so most of the people i had never heard of before, and this blog is not the widest read one out there either... but now i have many blogs that i need to go out and read.

sadly, the train i had elected to catch to be home in time to get a lift from the station home left the city at the un-godly hour of 11.41pm. how bad is it to live in the outer suburbs and have to work the next day. i seriously need to move to the city to improve my social life.

a very nice gentleman (who i wouldnt mind meeting again) walked me to the station and even went back to the bar to collect my jacket when i realised that it was actually cold outside and the reason for that was that i left my jacket by the bar.

late nght trains are always an interesting occasion. its not the train itself or the people on board that you need to worry about but what is waiting for you at the other end. luckily my chariot was waiting at the exit and i made a safe passage into bed and sleep.

thankyou very much to organizer http://hechoenmexico.blogspot.com, please organize another one soon!

could you sign this disclaimer?

last night was cheap arse tuesdays down at the gov (eh the hawthorn) so how could we miss an opportunity where the drinks are only $3!

i had a meeting in the city till 6pm so after that i made my way over to kristy's armed with a bottle of champagne and a watermelon (which we forgot to eat!).

at round 9pm we walked down to the pub where we were told we had to sign a disclaimer if we wanted to wear rubber thongs (flip flops for you overseas readers, not g-strings) into the establishment!

i know 2 weeks ago when we were there they were checking to see what shoes people were wearing but this is a bit extreme.

what could seriously happen to you if you worre rubber thongs in a pub? i think stiletto heels would be more of a risk.

when we explained that melinda's thongs were not made of rubber but actually "tatami", we were allowed in no trouble

the place wasnt as pumping as it was 2 weeks back, the dj still sucked and it was hotter inside than out for most of the time, but we all had fun.

i mised the train i wanted to catch home so i finnaly got home around 12.30.

i wil put some photos of the evening up shortly, but for the time being i am having trouble logging into the site where i normally put them.

Lets all be TV stars!

On channel 7 the other day they were advertising that they needed a studio audience for some new show.

so, because I always love getting stuff for free, entertainment included, I sent off an email and now I have 10 free tickets for me and my friends to use.

I have no idea what the show even is! but that doesn't matter. anything will be better than when we were in the audience for "jeopardy" when i was in primary school...

but i have been in the audience for "double dare" when josh was a contestant. that was pretty funny.

will have to wait and see if this new show can top that

According to the seller

, a whopping $400!

Now i dont quite get this, because i bought my other hybrid bike for $450 and there is definately a step in quality that is not found in the $50 difference.

i had heard that they were only worth $80 when i was on the ride. From the number of them i saw in the repairs tent each night i could vouch for that.

caleb8718 hasnt managed to get any bids yet and the starting bid is at $75. I dont think i will be able to sell mine either. and i cant even give it away!

The Playstation

According to OkCupid i am a "Random Gentle Sex Master (RGSMf)"

Easy to turn on. Hard to beat. You are The Playstation.

You're a nice girl, and you have lots of sex. It's therefore highly likely that you're attractive, and you're certainly outgoing & friendly. Plus, this healthy physical attitude of yours indicates deeper emotional well-being and stability. Unheard of. When guys dare to dream, they dream of you.

You don't get attached too easily, and, to wit, you're not necessarily looking for something long-term right now. That's a bigger asset than you know. Though, physically speaking, you're open to anything, you're keeping your emotional side well-protected. This means there won't be a lot of wreckage to clean up whenever you decide to settle down.

Your exact opposite:
The Priss

In the meantime, the men you share yourself with actually respect you. Like them, you enjoy sex for its own sake and don't need any other validation for pleasure than pleasure itself. Hopefully, you have the good sense to blow off anyone who thinks less of you for that. Usually, this is the part of the description where we offer some life-correcting advice, but honestly, we can't think of anything about you we'd change. Keep on fucking, partner.

ALWAYS AVOID: The Mixed Messenger

CONSIDER: Anyone else

I not so sure this amply describes me...

Road trip!

Over the last few week i havent felt like i was on uni holidays at all. i have worked so many shifts and the windsor and also at home doing my marketing job its not funny.

so when matt and his friend who was down from newcastle needed something to fill up a day or two with, a trip to phillip island sounded like fun.

i didnt want to go unless i could find someone to go with me. cause going on a holiday with your brother is fun and all....

one phone call later to kate and we were ready to go. i love last minute things loke this when they work out.

left on sunday morning and came back monday night. matts hire car (due to the disappearance of his car last week from the eastland carpark) was a trusty stead, but we packed a bit too much. the night was spent camping in ventnor about 500ms from the beach.

we had lots of fun. saw some penguins (not the penguins, but penguins none the less), swam in the ocean (gotta love woolamai), dranks lots of alcohol (the camping ground had its own bottle shop), sang karaoke (and won prizes), made friends with complete strangers (see Funny Face, I love you for the vacumn story). stuff like that

one thing i have learnt from this escapade, dont use spray on suncreen. i now have some funky tan lines to add to the ones from the GVBR.

gotta do this again soon though. i still have never been to the grampians and i cant imagine how many years ago since i was at the prom.

happy new years

what an evening, a way to ring out the year in style

it all started out with an 8.5 hour shift at work. as you can imagine, new years is the time when everyone wants to be in the city and noone wants to go home so hotels are fully packed iblcuding the ne i happen to work at. 132 check ins and i lost count of the cars.

but by 7.30 at my allocated time to finish amazingly there was only 8 or so left to check in and i was set free. after a shower and a bit of makeup, i was ready to party.

only problem was that my party buddies were still striggling to get a taxi somewhere in ringwood. and that left me with a few hours to fill in.

oh great melbourne and your free public transport on new years eve. what a great idea. only if it worked.

i wanted to get to riversdale rd in hawthorn. best way o get there is via tram. a tram that was supposed to leave from corner of spring and flinders....

but didnt. they had replaced some of the trams with buses through the centre of the city, but it seemed the bus didnt come past my stop. i made friends with another girl at the stop (who also happened to work at a hotel so we swapped horror stories of the day) and we shared a taxi in the direction of richmond. she only needed to get to hoddle street and handed me $10 to cover her fare (which was only $5) and wouldnt take any change. so lucky me my trip cost me $2.50!

in hawthorn was a house party at clarkey and rowans flat (rowan was not there though). i stayed for a little while until i got the call from liesl and biance that they were in the city.

getting back to the city was not an easy task. i actually needed to get to star bar on claredon st south melbourne, but the tram was supposed to go via flinders....

again with the buses. the tram only went to jolimont. i wish i had gotten on the train there, but no i decided to walk to cbd.... in my heels i made it as far as spring where i finally found anotehr taxi which wisked me to my destination via a long detour to get around the traffic and blocked roads.

star bar was $20 to get in. liesl and bianca had booked me a ticket cause it was sold out. but personally it was no different to a normal bar so i dont know why we should have had to pay to get in. but we did get a $100 drink card cause we had "more than 4 friends". they had a dj and a cover band which was good but slightly scary. they kept getting all the scanky girls up on stage and talking about vaginas....

12am came and went. no real talent in the bar. we left around 2.00 when our feet couldnt stand up anymore. heels and 8.5 hour shifts dont mix well with new years.

next stop was maccas for the obligatory cheese burger and then we started to walk to find a taxi for the others to get back to croydon. i had organised to stay at megus but i couldnt get in touch with her or any of my other options. the phones were crap last night. i sent a message at 12.30, the reply to this message was sent at 1.38 according to my phone, but i didnt actually recieve it till about 4am. i thought i might have to go back to croydon too but megu came though.

on the way there we encounted the underbelly of melbourne. on new years the strange ones really do come out. it was kinda freaky walking back from crown to flinders street cause i had to pass the banana alley vaults. i left the oethrs at the taxi rank along with another 100 or so. i hope they got home...

and i crawled into bed at 3am and was up again at 7 to start work ay 8am.....

the walk up to spring street was intersteing. i cant believe how many scanky people were still out. there was a guy asleep out the front of the hotel and another guy pulled up beside me and asked if i wanted a lift home. there were many requests for panadol to be brought up to rooms this morning too. i think everyone enjoyed themselves...

i am so stuffed now though, but there is no rest for the wicked. I have organised to go camping with my brother, his friend from newcastle and kate tomorrow at phillip island. departure is at 9am on the dot so we can make it to sanremo for the pelican feeding.

should be fun. i havent been to philip island for so long and we will go to wilsons prom on the next day if the weather is good. so much for me working. but you gotta have a bit of a rest. i dont even want to think about how may hours i did this week, but on wednesday when the pay arrives i will be a happy carly.

shopping perhaps.....
