winery hopping

the original plan was to ride our bikes around the yarra valley, stopping at the wineries along the way whilst reminising about the GVBR.

this didnt quite work out. of the 6 or so of us, only judith and i had bothered to keep the day free. so we decided it was too good a day to miss and we went out anyway to grape grazing, be it by car though.

grape grazing is a special weekend held once a year where all the wineries put on fod, wine and entertainment. you pay $30 for a passport and this gets you in to all of them, a free glass of wine, a free glass, a meal, a bottle of water and a coffee, and a groovy lanyard to hang around your neck..

first stop was yering station. very groovy with funky music and lots of young people who looked like they had been drinking for quite a few hours before we got there at 11.30.

yering also had a little farmers market going on so we tried everything we could, including the yarra valley beer which was very nice. cant remember the name now though but it started with H...

next stop was de bortolli for lunch. the food looked much nicer here than at yering where everything was served on plasitc plates. you got real porcelain here. the line was long but judith and i are pros at the now after the GVBR first day breakfast fiasco

after that we went onto hynkell where some salsa dancing lessons were in action, and then it was onto St Huberts for the last stop and some yummy ice cream

also sometime during the day i tried out the free breathalyzer they had for people to use. i had had two glasses and i blew .03. judith had also had 2 but blew .02

funny, cause she always gets much more drunk than me soooner...

nothing exciting there, but attached to the flyer was a post it note saying "i thought you would like this"

stung

i have just been down to have a bbq lunch at my old work in carlton. it was getting a bit loney in the office in southbank. and carlton isnt that far away by tram.

anyway, rowan was quite annoyed i hadnt reported something on my blog that happened last week yet. its not because it was really embarrasing, seriously i hadnt gotten around to it!

so here is the story. last friday we went out bowling. but before that i was working at the hotel. during my lunchbreak i got a strange phone call.

..in an american accent
the is triple m, you have been dobbed into win $1000, if you answer these questions correclty

wow, i though, i could do with $1000.

question one. what is your name?

now this is too easy i thought

question two. what is your mum's name?

not too hard yet

question three. how old are you?

But from here on in things got a bit wierd.
question four. what was your first bf's name?
question five. where are you going tonight?
question six. how old were you went you first had sex
question seven. where is the most exotic place you have had sex?

At this point i realised that there was no $1000 and it was just my friends playing a huge prank on me!

I wanst the only one though. Atish got stung aswell and figured it all out after he refused to sing out loud on the phone cause he was in his office and there were too many co-workers around.

thanks rowan. funny joke. but you do a great impersenation of an american accent. but btw, why would an american be ringing up from triple m?

the joys of working

this week i am office-sitting while my boss is away on business. his office is a little one room serviced office in at southbank. the walls between his and the next office are pretty thin and the guy next door has the most annoying voice! and all he does is complain and say that he is gonna break someones arm...

burnt out

i really think i am trying to fit too much into one week.

at the moment i have 2 jobs. one is full time during the week and the other is on both days over the weeked.

in 2 weeks uni goes back and add to that classes, tutoring for 2 (maybe a third) students, lab supervision and marking for 1st year japanese homework and my own homework. and some cycling training has to fit in there too. i have just signed up for the 1000km rotary ride in march (starting one day after my alleged business trip to japan gets back)

i dont think this is a good idea at all! i am going to have to do something about it because even at the moment i amgoing crazy.

yesterday i worked all day and then some friends invited themselves over for dinner, and then i had promised another friend i would go to his birthday party. i almost fell asleep in the bar waiting for them (they were in fact 1 hour later than what they said they would be)

this has gotta stop! i think the first thing to go is the hotel job on the weekends. i need to reclaim the weekend..
now it is just a question of telling them this. i hate quiting. and even worse is the 2 weeks notice you have to give so things are uncomfortable for those 14 days till you can escape. at least my last job said ok, you can just go today, dont worry about giving notice.

what am i to do!

the great ocean rd (again)

somehow megumi convinced me to drive her and 3 of her friends to the great ocean rd on sunday. it is such a long way!!!

keeping this in mind i agreed on the condition that we stay the night somewhere so i dont have to drive it all in one day. we came to the conclusion that port campbell would be a good place to stop at.

i worked till 1.30pm (they tried to make me stay back but i was having none of it) and set off at 2pm. i think we got to port campbell around 5.30, after stopping a few times for petrol, ice creams etc..

it was only 2 months ago i was in port campbell last, but being there on a sunday arvo not during the summer holidays is a big change to being there with 8000 cyclists. its a cute littel town. has quite a few restaurants and a ncie beach. the cabin we were staying in was the closest to the beach and you could see the ocean through the window. i dont know how we managed to get the best place, i only booked on saturday

dinner was at the pub, and then down to the waterfront cafe (cant remember the name) to listen to a live performace. one of the japanese girls who joined us used to live in timboon so she kept running into people she knew. had a pretty early night, so we could get up early to see the sights.

first stop in the morning was loch ard gorge. walked out to the blowhole and thunder cave, but the tide was out so nothing spectacular. then it was on to the 12 apostles. we wanted to go to london bridge too but realised that it was on the warmanbool side of port campbell and i wasnt going to do any back tracking.

not far from the 12 apostles, you go inland over the otways. nice and winding, but good to see a differnt view than just the ocean all the time. i wanted to stop at maits rest to show them the rainforest, but it was closed for maintenance.

apollo bay was the next rest stop were we had a drink and a walk around the town, then on to lorne for lunch at the cafe called "arab". also had a swim there. then kept going through to anglesea to check out the kangaroos on the golf course, and then to torquay for another swim.

when you map it out like this it doesnt sound like it is too far, but gosh i am tired now. the worst part is between apollo bay and anglesea. soo many corners. and noone else in eth car could share the driving.

i think i finally got home around 8.30pm cause i still had an hours drive through peak hour after dropping the girls in the city. but they were appreciative. they even payed for my share of the accom and petrol. and it was good to beable to see all the things i had passed on the bike ride but not had a chance to stop and look at.

i will put some photos up soon.

friday night

started off the usual way, at work. but i finished at 6.30 so this gave me lots of time to get ready. i had driven in but i decided my best option was to leave the car in the multi-storey parking and find an alternative route home. i didnt have to work till 1pm so i was planning a big one.

met up with atish and co at duke of kent pub near his work for some pool and drinks. next stop was lustre lounge to pick up hs friends and katie. then to some wierd asian take away place for noodles. the place we were aiming for was closed so we were stuck wit the place next door to it. however, i think the place that we were aiming for looked slightly dodgy too...

main destination for the evening was strike at QV for a bit of bowling. i havent been bowling for years, and it shows. i as pretty crap, but not the worst one there so i didnt feel too bad. we played 2 games, i cam second last both times.

drinks were not too pricey, 2 cocktails for $12 was a welcome surprise. and the bowling only cost $20 for 2 games.

lots of high jinx. erin met the guy she was planning to. and i offended his friend somehow, but he "still wanted to get to know me". sorry mate, just a little bit too short for me, and that pink shirt was a worry too.

after this was all done, the plan was to go to loft, but it was closed!! instead we walked to pauls car and then drove over to atish's house for more drinks and nibblies. microwave nachos!!

i think it was around 4am when i got home. matt and his friends were having a bit of a gathering. but when i got home matt was no where to be found. he was off searching for possums??

then in the morning when i got up, all the people were still there. not enough beds so they decided to stay up all night watching rage. go figure.
