Re-Visiting Vista

Well, haven't had a chance to play around with the new Windows Vista 5308 for a while - and thought I should just "use it like normal" - and so been editing some photos, and sending emails, etc.

Some great stuff I've found :

  • When doing ALT-TAB, the list of thumbnails for the application is click-able. This is something that I've secretly thought would be great to have when cycling through 10+ apps running... And now it's in Vista. Just ace.

  • IE-7 has a great zoom feature, in the bottom right-hand corner. Doesn't just size the font up and down - but it does a proper zoom of everything - like the zoom would work in paintbrush - or similar. Again - very cool.

  • When viewing a list of folders in Explorer - you can use a checkbox tick on/off to multi-select ! Just brilliant. This requires a setting change - found it when looking at "Folder Options". This in't turned on by default - here's how to do it.

  • Firstly - here's the normal Explorer view - with 2 files multi-selected using the old-school "CTRL+click".

Just click the options menu (circled) - and select "Folder Options"

On the "view" tab - scroll down and check the box ON :

Then - you can multi-select (or select all) using a single-click within Explorer. Yaaay !! No more CTRL+click... :-)

  • Off to play with the sidebar now - was a bit tricky to find where to turn it on. Start > All Programs > Accessories > Sidebar. Looks very cool.

  • First thing I noticed - the clock has the map of Australia behind the time - and changes accordingly (of course). Looking at GMT time now - and show's the longitude across Arfica, and through England. Niiiiice.

  • Vista is definately "wood worthy" - that's for sure.

The thumbnails in that image look mighty dodgy!
