SO YOUNG TO DIE

So young to die, so young to die
No chance to say goodbye
They left you there
Without a care
Their actions to deny.

So young to die, in the prime of life
Your youth was barely entered,
Your vibrant spirit
So full of life
Around its vitality was centred.

So young to die, your lovely face
Smiles back at me from the page.
That shiny hair,
That cheeky grin
I know you’ll never age.

I’ve lost you now, almost ten long years
Yet when you look at me
I see again
That reckless grin -
The stars of youth again.

How hard it is sometimes to see
The passing of the years.
No chance to say
Goodbye my love
As tears are all I can give.

For eighteen years you gave us much
Of life and joy and vigor.
You kept us
On our toes as well,
And we couldn’t get past your trigger.

My lively spirited young teenager
I wonder where you are today.
My heart still grieves
When I think of you.
How hard it is to stay.

The silence of the walls speak out
Making memories hurt again.
The days you were here
When you danced and sang
And your songs rang through their vein.

So young to die, so young to leave
No chance to say goodbye.
Would it have been
Any easier,
If we’d known you were going to die?

You passed away so suddenly
Just like everything in life you did.
If I had it
All over again
Would I have done any differently?

Goodbye my love, my sweetest girl
Your youth will always be
Upon my heart
Indelible
For everyone to see.

God bless you through eternity.
