This poem was written from my observations while we were on holiday in
Dalmeny, a small country town near Narooma, a not much bigger country town
in New South Wales, along the coast.
The waves sing songs as they roll to shore
Surrounding the rocks near the golden sand.
I look down from the balcony - oh so close -
To this scene of nature's hand.
A seagull with a broken leg
Stands upon the balcony's edge,
Calling for food - I couldn't resist -
I made sure a biscuit he was fed.
The other seagulls had their share
But they fought and only crumbs remain.
This lovely place is paradise
As the sun begins a brand new day.
What gifts we are given by nature's touch,
How often we fail to see -
The beauty of our very own paradise
In the wonders of shore and sea.
I always thought paradise was heaven
But looking out to sea
To the beauty of nature unhindered
I see paradise begins within me.
