Sapporo New Chitose - Hong Kong CX2581 18JAN04 CX2581 CTS-HKG Date: 18JAN04 Airline: Cathay PacificFlight: CX2581 Aircraft: Airbus A330-343X Registration: B-HLN Seat: 12A Seat Factor: ~77% Departure Bay: 1 Scheduled Departure Time: 1745 Actual Departure Time: 1754 Departure Runway: 01L Departure Weather: Light Snow Take-off Time: 1815 Estimated Arrival Time: 2230 Arrival Runway: 07L Touch-down Time: 2240 Actual Arrival Time: 2244 Arrival Bay: N66 Flight Time: 5 Hours 25 Minutes Block Time: 5 Hours 50 Minute Flight Mileage: 2026nm Cruising Altitude: FL390 Cruising Speed: M0.82 *There is a time difference between Sapporo and Hong Kong. Hong Kong is 1 hour behind of Sapporo. After the 5 days Japan tour (4 days in Sapporo after all), we were set to head back to Hong Kong. Again, since we held our own tickets, we had to check-in ourselves. We secured seats 12A/C (Business Class seats) but since this is an extra flight, only Economy Class service is offered. This means that we will get economy class meals while sitting in the business class zone. Check-in at Sapporo was done by JAL staff.

counters at New Chitose.
After
check-in I went for a walk in the terminal since we cannot go airside
before 1.5hrs prior to flight departure. New Chitose airport's shopping
area is just like a shopping mall. It's very busy with people and there
are so many things you can buy there. When it was time, we went through
the security screening then pass through immigration. New Chitose
International airside was pretty dull. Only 2 departure aerobridges and a
small number of shopping outlets. We even saw CX581 depart (scheduled to
depart 1 hour before CX2581) and saw CX2580 arrive. Things were rather
uneventful and apart from seeing ANA's Pokemon B744 =D. Also just prior to
boarding, I saw CX2586 (2nd extra flight to CTS that day, total of 3 CX
HKG-CTS flights) arrive.
ANA's
B744 Pokemon.
Settled
down in seat 12A after boarding and took a few photos too.
The old
regional Business Class seats.
After
boarding, the captain informed us that due to de-icing requirements, we
will be delayed for a short while. Anyhow, the delay only ended up to be 9
minutes.
After
take-off pre-meal drink service was offered. The cabin crew came around
asking us for a drink order rather than pushing the drink cart through the
aisle. This seemed like a semi-Business Class service =P. After drink
service, the Flight Purser came around asking for our preferred choice of
meal. Again, not pushing the cart. This was a rather nice touch =D.
Dinner-
Prawn Salad,
Gyuniku Koumiyaki,
Lemon Chiiffon Cake.
There was
no menu distribution for 2 reasons I can think of. First, this is an extra
flight, the meals could be different. Second, due to the Asian Avian flu,
all bird products were removed from the meals (including chicken), so
there would be some changes to the entree.
Anyway,
after the meal trays have been collected, lights were off for us to rest.
Since I didn't get much sleep while in Sapporo (been playing too much), I
took a nap. The flight time past quite swiftly and we were descending
before I felt 5 hours have past.
Approach
and landing were smooth and we disembarked in no time.
This
flight was quite good, but I couldn't judge too much since I slept for
most of the flight.
