Tokyo is 1 hour ahead of Hong Kong. My friend and I joined a 5 days tour to Sapporo from Hong Kong. Since we both issued our tickets in Sydney, we took advantage of a special fare called "Asia Passport" which included 4 sectors of travel within Asia. As a package it was a great value for money. So having got our own tickets, we did not fly with group tickets arranged by the tour. This also meant that we did not have to arrive 3 hours prior to departure which group members using group tickets had to. So we got there at around 7:45am (2hrs prior) to check-in ourselves. While at the check-in desk, the ASO told us that we got an upgrade to Business Class due to Economy Class being oversold. In fact, there was the scheduled CX580 and an extra CX2580 that day. However, CX2580 was cancelled and CX580 was upgraded to a B744 service. Anyway, we got our Boarding passes which had "NIL LGE" written on it indicating no lounge service. We had just over an hour before boarding, so we went to have breakfast at the food court. I didn't eat anything since the Mocha from Pacific Coffee was really filling...

preparing for departure.
Waited
around and took some photos before boarding. When boarding was called, we
boarded through the left side of the boarding gate then through door L1
then up the stairs to upper deck. We were greeted by the crews upstairs
and were led to our seats. The pre take-off drink service was offered
where I opted for the Cathay Delight. Such an amazing drink. Refreshing
towels were offered afterwards followed by menu distribution. We were
addressed by name individually when the menus were handed out.
Business
Class seats.
Everything was smooth and our flight was underway after the pushback, then
taxied down to RWY07R and took-off swiftly. When the captain signaled the
crew that they may start serving, the crews went to the galley to set up a
cart with a variety of drinks. I had a glass of orange juice (the premium
type with pulp in it) and a plate of Otsumami which was heated =D.
Pre-meal
drinks with Otsumami.
Afterwards, lunch was offered. All
the plates and food (starter, salad and cold noodles) were preset on a
tray and were laid out on our tables over a table cloth. After a while,
when we've finished the starter, salad and noodles, we were offered the
main course. All three choices of entrees were laid out on the trolley and
I chose the seafood option. It tasted great. When we finished our food,
our trays were collected and a selection of fruit was brought. Dessert
(ice-cream) was after the fruit. The meal was definitely more
comprehensive than those in Economy Class =P.
Starter-
Selected Seasonal Salad served with Balsamic Vinegar Dressing,
Mugwart Soba Noodles, Chicken and Mackerel Tataki
Main
Course- Steamed Seabass and Grilled
Scallop with Sea Urchin Sauce, Bamboo Rice,
Japanese Mixed Vegetables
Fresh
Fruit.
Dessert + Lemon Tea.
After the
meal service, I decided to take a short nap, since it was an early morning
for me. When I woke up I went to the galley and asked for a "Pacific
Sunrise". It's also a CX signature drink (alcoholic), The taste was very
special and presentation is 100% too. Hanged around in the galley for a
while before heading back to my seat. I then used the AVOD to watch bits
of a movie before a PA was made by the flight deck.
We were
informed that due to the bad weather in Sapporo, we had to divert to Tokyo
as Sapporo's New Chitose airport was closed. At the time of this
announcement, we were told arrangements will be made after landing.
Airshow-
Diverted to Tokyo.
Approach
into Tokyo was rather bumpy due to the strong wind. Landing was very
smooth and we were parked at a remote bay. No information regarding the
arrangements were made as the crews were unsure too. Shortly afterwards,
some ground staff came onboard information the captain of the situation.
The captain then announced that we will stay in Tokyo for the night and
departure shall be scheduled at 9am the next day.
During
the bus ride into the terminal, the staff told us to contact any of them
after retrieving our checked-in luggage. Since we were part of the tour
group, our tour leader told us to stay in the same hotel as them to avoid
him looking for us in the morning. We were allocated to stay at the ANA
hotel.
Overall,
the flight was great and the diversion didn't cause disruption inflight,
at least in the cabin I was in, everyone seemed to have nothing to say.
Arrangements made were faultless and the inflight service was great too.
