Average Cruising Altitude: 11000m* *As shown onboard ** There is a time difference between Sydney and Singapore. Singapore is 3 hours slower than Sydney. As shown above I’ve flown from Sydney to Hong Kong via Singapore. This is the first trip report I’ve written and also, the first time I’ve travelled from Sydney to Hong Kong via Singapore as I usually fly direct from Sydney to Hong Kong on another carrier. I travelled with my family totalling to 4 people altogether. Having completed online check-in the previous night so that we may avoid the long queue at Economy Class check-in (as there is a designated counter for internet check-in) we got seats 56 and 57 H K for the SYD-SIN sector and 60 and 61 H K for the SIN-HKG sector. Also I found out that SQ232 had an aircraft change from the scheduled 773 to the 772. We arrived at the airport at 1105 in the morning then completed check-in by 1115. Check-in was handled by Qantas staff. After we got out boarding passes for both sectors, we settled down for a drink while I visited some friends at the airport. At about 1200, we passed through immigration which was quite empty. Then we passed through security check and got to the gate at about 1210. Took a look around and saw the following: UA B744 U195UA at Gate 55 MH B744 at Gate 53 CX A333 B-HLR at Gate 36 CI A343 at Gate 9 Boarded the aircraft at 1235 with security check by inspecting our passports. Doors were closed at 1307 and push-back at 1311. We began taxi at 1315 down to RWY34L and completed taxi at 1323 and took off at 1324. At one stage of the flight, there were head wind of about 144km/h and Ground Speed was 770Km/h. Two meals were served on this flight, they were lunch and refreshment.
Lunch from Sydney to Singapore
appetiser Smoked salmon with potatoes salad
main courses Chicken braised in her-tomato sauce with green beans and new potatoes
or
Braised fish with beancurd in oyster sauce, seasonal vegetables and fried rice
cheese Cheese and crackers
dessert Ice cream
from the bakery Roll and butter
hot beverages Coffee - Tea
Refreshment from Sydney to Singapore
light bites Turkish bread with shaved turkey
or
Panini sandwich with ham and cheese
hot beverages Coffee - Tea Lunch were served from the front to the end, thus I was one of the last to receive a meal. By the time they reached me, only Chicken was left, so I had no choice and interestingly, my meal was served with a red tray with Raffles Class cutleries. The chicken was quite bland and was only lukewarm (maybe because of the time taken to serve the rest of the plane). The salad was nice and bread was warm. Ice cream was served shortly after I got my meal. The ice-cream were like deep frozen as the inside was still quite hard.... Apart from the small portion of the main meal, the lunch was not too bad. Refreshments were served from the end up to the front, so I was amongst the first to be served. I chose the ham and cheese sandwich and tea. The sandwich consists of one big bread roll with lots of ham stuffed in it. However, as this was a cold refreshment, the bread wasn’t very soft. Nevertheless, the refreshment was in good portion and the warm tea accompanied the sandwich quite well. Also, there was a “Tim Tam” chocolate biscuit with it as well. Shortly after the refreshment trays were taken back, we began to descend at 1741 (Singapore Time) and gears down at 1802 (Singapore Time) and touching down on Runway 02L at 1805 (Singapore Time). Then arriving at gate E26 at 1813 (Singapore Time). On the way to the gate, I saw 9V-SMD at Gate C25. After deplaning at about 1825, we had to hurry to gate E12 for our flight to Hong Kong which leaves at 1900 Singapore Time.
31DEC02 SQ868 SIN-HKG Airline: Singapore Airlines Flight: SQ868 Aircraft: B777-312 Aircraft Registration: 9V-SYF Departure Gate: E12 Scheduled Departure Time: 1900 Scheduled Boarding Time: n/a Scheduled Arrival Time: 2240 Arrival Gate: 15 Seat: 61K- Economy Class Actual Boarding Time: 1830 Door Closing Time: 1901 Actual Push-back Time: 1902 Engine Start-up Time: 1904 Actual Take-off Time: 1915 Actual Touch-down Time at HKG- 2235 Flight Time- 3 Hours & 20 Mins* Flight Distance- 2566Km* Average Ground Speed: 770Km/h approx. Average Cruising Altitude: 11582m* *As shown onboard **There is no time difference between Singapore and Hong Kong. After deplaning from SQ232, we hurried to gate E12 which was not very close.... when we got to the gate, boarding has already begun. We went through the usual security checks etc.... then got onto the aircraft. Doors were closed at 1901 and engine start-up was at 1904. Then taxied to RWY02R for take-off. Shortly after the seatbelt sign was off, the in-flight manager came on PA to inform us that he had to reset the IFE hoping to get the IFE working. This aircraft is equipped with the AVOD IFE. However, after resetting the system a few times, the problem still occurred.... at least for my seat. No movies could be watched, as after selecting the movie, the system just jumps back to the previous menu. Strange.... and after consulting a FA, she tried the PTV at some spare seats and the same problem still came up. She apologised for the problem and when I asked her for some playing cards, she was more than happy to give me some. Meal served on this flight was dinner and it’s as following: Dinner from Singapore to Hong Kong international selection
appetiser Ham and pineapple salad
main course Pan fried salmon served with white wine sauce, ratatouille and olive mashed potatoes
cheese Cheese and crackers
dessert Ice cream
from the bakery Roll and butter
hot beverages Coffee - Tea
oriental selection appetiser Marinated clam salad
main course Ah Yat’s style cubed chicken in honey-pickled ginger sauce with carrot, marrow and fried rice
light bites Chinese snack
dessert Ice cream
from the bakery Roll and butter
hot beverages Chinese tea
Dinner was served from the back to the front, so I was again, amongst the first to be served. I opted for the oriental selection which was a good meal. Salad was spicy which was good and the main meal was in good portion and has enough taste in it. The Chinese snack was a pineapple cake. Drinks to accompany were orange juice and water. Nothing too much happened on this flight apart from a few minor turbulence. Descent began at 2207 and gears down were at 2233 while touching down at RWY07L at 2235. Arriving into gate15 at 2240. Going through immigration was very swift as the lines were not long. Then we collected the checked-in baggage.
