The CAMS Gold Star

The CAMS Gold Star

was introduced in 1957 to reward Australia's champion racing driver.

It was awarded to the winner of a series of races in Australia's premier racing category, originally Formula Libre.

1964 was the dawn of a great era and for 6 glorious years it was where Australia's best drivers honed their skills so they could take on the best Formula 1 drivers in the Tasman Series in their own backyard. In 1970 Formula 5000 was introduced for the Tasman Series, but the Australians had one more battle to go with the 2.5 litre cars.

This is the story of those drivers, those cars and those races.
