| My name is Carol D'Aoust and for me breeding cats is an ongoing passion - I breed for quality not quantity in my small DNA PKD negative boutique cageless cattery Together with husband Don live at Collaroy on the Northern Beaches of Sydney in NSW, Australia. I am a long-standing member of the NSW Cat Fanciers' Assoc Inc joining in 1970. I became a Justice of the Peace at 25 years of age. In the early days when we had our farm we were involved in showing Himalayans, Old English Sheepdogs and Miniature Schnauzers. Having imported several Miniature Schnauzers from Canada we still continue to enjoy breeding these wonderful dogs. In 1970 we registered our prefix Daycara and purchased our first Himalayans, Yarrera Simone (seal point) followed by Yarrera Kunawa (blue point), from Joy and Russ Needham. We showed and bred and later went on to import from the UK the first chocolates and lilacs in the Southern Hemisphere. In 1971, when Himalayans were considered a separate breed, I went on to the Experimental Register allowing me to breed Himalayans to Persians as I felt this was a way to improve type. The progeny were called Himalayan Hybrids and on the Supplementary Register until you bred 4 generations from the Persian. In 1976 we imported eight cats from the UK. Of these, six were chocolate and lilac, solid or pointed from Mrs Harding (Mingchiu prefix) who is acknowledged as the pioneer in the UK of these rare colours. This was so I could continue with my dream of cats with beautiful type that were both Himalayan and also carried the chocolate gene. In 1992 I fell in love with the Exotic Shorthair and many thanks to Lesley Morgan from whom I purchased my first two, Comyn Dash n Dazzle (blue) and Comyn Billie Holiday (black), with the sole purpose of breeding chocolates and lilacs in both pointed and solids. In 2006 we were extremely lucky to purchase English Ch Rosegarth Seraglio a lilac Persian and Rosegarth Teahs in my Eyes a blue point Himalayan from Anna Ruth Jones in the UK - thank you and Ch. Lavatera Am Exceptional Too a lilac point girl from Jennie Paul in New Zealand - thank you also. As luck would have it Teah came out pregnant to an American Ch black Persian and she presented us with 5 stunning high nosed kittens in the July. The Exotic tends to be playful, active and inquisitive blessed with a laid-back, happy-go-lucky nature and able to take everything in its stride. The Persian is quiet and affectionate and has an ability to adapt to any environment – the couch potato of the cat world. Both breeds are incredibly dog like. We have our girls and boy all living with us in our home and they have certainly taken over our house and enjoy sitting on the top balcony overlooking the beach or taking up so much of our lounge that there is often not room for us.
