SEPTEMBER 2003
Spot the false myth:
a: Cannabis is safe and doesn't harm anyone.
b: Coughing can keep you alive if you have a heart attack
c: One night of Ecstacy can cause brain damage
ANSWER
a: MYTH BUSTING --- Cannabis is not safe, nor is it harmless. Cannabis is a dangerous and harmful illicit drug, either eaten or smoked it can cause significant harm.
During Spring 2003 Drug Free Australia will continue to promote issues around cannabis use, including its links to mental illnesses, depression and deaths in motor vehicle accidents. There is no safe way to consume the whole cannabis plant.
b: Recent medical reports emailed around the world reported that deep heavy coughing may actually save your life if you suffer a heart attack, or abnormal heart rhythms and are alone but cannot get to medical attention. While doubts have been expressed about this, 3 medical experts advise that in the unlikely event you should find yourself needing to try it, best to try.
c. Exstacy users are being warned by emergency room doctors that their brains are being damaged by even one night's use of ecstacy, symptoms appear to be similar to brain strokes of 80 year old patients.
