51 - the Passenger Loco

Number 51 was the DBT's regular passenger train locomotive. Originally built on a Hallmark brass N-scale Baldwin switcher mechanism, the body is fabricated with a scratchbuilt footplate, the cab from a Bemo tractor, and the hood is adapted from part of a Con-Cor N-scale U50D. Sadly, the mechanism has suffered an irrepairable failure, and currently #51 is in the workshops "waiting further instructions". The possibility of using a LifeLike SW9/1200 mechanism has been explored, and is looking like a reasonable alternative.
