Swooping Hawk
| The miniatures were first primed with white. The first coat
of colour was "Hawk Turquoise" (Citadel paints). When the first coat
had dried, a little ork flesh (dark green) wash was mixed with blue wash (the washes are
inks) to produce a dark greenish blue, which was then applied to the model. The
washes help define the detail. When the ink had dried, all the raised areas of the miniature were then painted with the straight turquoise again. The next step was to build up the highlights. A small amount of white was mixed to the turquoise and applied to the larger raised areas such as the chest plates and the plates on the legs and arms. To build up the highlights a few more progressively lighter coats of turquoise were painted on, working towards the edges of the raised areas. The final highlights (turquoise mixed with a lot of white) were painted onto the edges of the raised areas that faced the direction of the imaginary sun. The patterns on the helmets were painted on freehand, using straight "Hawk Turquoise", and then painting the smaller shapes on with lighter shades of turquoise. |
