Ranger

spacer.gif (56 bytes) Rangers are very skilled snipers, armed with The Eldar long rifle. Trained in camouflage they can infiltrate deep behind enemy lines.

TACTICAL SUGGESTIONS:

The ability of the rangers to always hit on a 2 and wound on a 4, makes them very good for dealing with high toughness creatures such as Daemons, Ogryns and Space Marine bikers.

The range of the Eldar long rifle means that the Rangers can sit back behind other troops in your army to deal with threats as they advance. To be able to "pin" enemy troops is a very valuable skill. Pinning heavy weapons teams is very satisfying.

Because of the Ranger's high threat to the enemy, they will attract a lot of attention. If you are planning to use Rangers near the front of your army then it is wise to use large squads of them because you don't want them to break if they take a few hits. Keep in mind that the Eldar long rifle is a move or fire weapon and if your Rangers fall back they won't be able to shoot with it in the next turn.

If you're able to deploy your Rangers behind screening troops, you can use smaller squads. Having a few smaller squads has the advantage of forcing more than one pinning test on one squad. The Rangers can be used to pin troops rather than actually kill them. A whole enemy squad that can't move or shoot for a turn, means that you can move up more troops with fewer casualties.
