Warp Spider

spacer.gif (56 bytes) Warp Spiders are heavily armoured, highly trained aspect warriors, armed with the deadly Death Spinner and equipped with a compact warp generator, that enables them to make short warp jumps. Because of the heavy equipment and armour used by the Warp Spiders, they are unable to run (fleet of foot).

TACTICAL SUGGESTIONS:

The death spinner is able to wound most troops and destroy lightly armoured vehicles.

The warp pack used by the Warp Spiders enables them to approach the enemy in relative safety, by warping from cover to cover. Due to short range of their weapons, the warp generator is excellent for getting in close. Being able to warp 12" and then assault another 6" means that the Warp Spiders can deal with most threats that approach your lines. An Exarch will increase the effectiveness of these smaller squads in assaults.

As the Warp Spiders need to move from cover to cover, it is better to use them in smaller squads of 5 or 6. Smaller squads are easier to fit behind small areas of cover, to stay out of line of sight. The 3+ armour that the Warp Spiders wear, gives them a better than average chance of surviving incoming small arms fire as they move forward.

Warp Spiders can be used offensively, to warp up to troop transports and other light vehicles to destroy them, to force the troops that are being carried, out into the open. Using Warp Spiders in combination with Howling Banshees or Striking Scorpions in this manner can be a very effective method of clearing an area of enemy.

The Death Spinner is also good for dealing with high toughness troops with light armour, such as Ogyrns or daemons.

Warp Spiders have an effective coverage radius of 18" in any direction. This ability to move so far makes the Warp Spiders very versatile in responding to incursions by the enemy.

Because of the distance that Warp Spiders can move, it is possible to position them between two other squads to act in support with either squad as needed. Your enemy commander will see two squads advancing with the Warp Spiders close enough to aid either squad should he attack one of them. Sometimes the threat of action is as good as the action itself.

Warping behind enemy troops that are going to be fired upon or assaulted by your troops, can help in the destruction of those foe by taking advantage of the crossfire rule, if they fall back.

Don't fall into the trap of keeping the Warp Spiders still all the time to "rapid fire", as you will be giving up one of their most important attributes, movement.
