Egg and Biscuit Mix

Ellis W. Thornley.

Breeders keep asking what do I give my birds when they have young, as additives with the normal seeds mixture, so I thought I would start at the beginning.

Depending what seed is available at the time, as Drought affects both availability and price. My basic seed is Yellow Panicum 75% to which I add Red Panicum, French White Millet, Jap Millet plus a small amount of Canary seed. The Black seeds are a waste of time and money as they just scatter them.

The mix ….

6 cups of Egg and Biscuit Mix, as bought from Produce Store.

1 cup of " Cerevite"  Breakfast Cereal.

1 cup of "Semolina" Breakfast Cereal.

1 cup of "Farex" Baby Cereal.

2 tablespoons of Powered Milk

2 tablespoons of  Maw (Poppy) seed.

Mix and store in airtight Jar.

Place a desert spoonful of DRY mix in a container for each cage. I use the lids from the Baby Food jars, just the right size to hold a days supply.

Only a small amount required for the first few days, then increase to the full amount. If a large number of young in nest by the end of the first week, it may require topping up each day.

At the end of the second week out of the nest remove the soft food and force the young to eat seed, by then the Parents will be close to not feeding them.

Some young will continue to eat the soft food and not touch seeds that is why I remove it..
