Our vision is to help singles become single-minded for Christ.

how did ESC get started?

A group of us from various churches met together informally to share our common concern for our single friends. We cannot deny that early discussion about the aims of ESC revolved around matchmaking, but pretty soon it became apparent that we were heading in the wrong direction. As we discussed the issues, talked to different people and searched the scriptures there were a number of important elements we became aware of and had to consider.

1. Singleness is a complex issue both inside and outside the church. There are many different factors that may result in a person being single and these individual needs must be considered in the process. Singleness involves people who are:

• Young
• Older
• Divorced
• Widowed
• Single by choice
• Single not by choice

2. Statistically, it is a fact that the number of single women in most churches far out-weighs the number of single men. The reality is that not everyone is guaranteed to find a partner. There just aren’t enough single Christian men to go around.

3. The Apostle, Paul, himself commended the single life (1 Corinthians 7), and for this reason, to see singleness as a problem is a problem in itself.

For these reasons, the committee decided to start ESC as a ministry to encourage, support and mobilize singles to continue to be single-minded for Christ. In addition to this we would like our family churches to be considering ways they can do the same in their individual congregations.

statement of faith - what we believe

We believe in the divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture as originally given and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

We believe in the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.

We believe in the universal sinfulness and guilt of humanity since the fall, rendering men and women subject to God's wrath and condemnation.

We believe in the conception of Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and His birth by the Virgin Mary.

We believe in the redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only though the sacrificial death, as our representative and substitute, of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God.
